My apologizes if I asked this before but I was always curious back in 1988 what led up to Stormshadow switching form Cobra to GI Joe. The Joe version of Stormshadow was in the DIC series if I remember correctly. Was there any explanation why he joined GI Joe?

Storm Shadow was only in Cobra to find the killer of the Hard Master.
Once that he found out Zartan was the killer he had no reason to be in Cobra any more. The Baroness, knowing this, shot him dead. (issue 47) He was revived when Serpentor was created using his DNA. (issue 50) He returned to the Pit to talk with Snake Eyes about his recent transformation. (issue 52) Snake Eyes gives him the keys to the cabin in the High Sierras. Billy returns in issue 63 and Storm Shadow and Ripcord ask him what happened to the Soft Master and Candy. He returns in issue 66 and teams up with Snake Eyes to rescue Stalker and the other Joes in a POW camp in Borovia. At this point Storm Shadow becomes a Joe ally as the next time we see him he is working with Jinx and Billy in San Francisco. From the filecard: Storm Shadow served with Snake-Eyes in Southeast Asia and both of them later studied the secret arts of Ninjitsu with Storm Shadow's family, a ninja clan that could trace its history back through thirty generations of assassins. Unhinged by the murder of his uncle and mentor, he infiltrated Cobra, seeking revenge but found vengeance to be a poor substitute for life. Now, in semiretirement at a remote mountain hideaway, he occasionally takes on a special mission or two-if Snake-Eyes asks him nicely. However DIC never went into that. Dic was not that...detailed in their story telling.

No. The change took place in the comics. When the Ninja Force toys came out, they made Storm Shadow a Joe so that it would follow the comic book storyline. Then when the DIC cartoon started, they followed the toyline. I do not recall any explanation in the cartoon, though.
