I gotta agree with you, the people behind the "customer service" desks really have no room for error around me anymore, I've put up with a lot of crap from people. If it happens again I'll request the store manager and complain about staff attitude directly to him/her with a reminder than I will continue to return to their store as a customer and should I experience staff attitude I will request the store manager to come and talk to me again - however many times it takes till they get it right, they know I'm not going away.

I don't mean to preach at anyone about kindness and such, and if an employee really goes over the line, sure, talk to the manager. I've done that with people in the service industry (a waiter who gave a completely unasked for lecture about steroids to me and my ex, who was a doctor, got his ass reamed to the restaurant's manager, for example) but if an employee at a Target makes an offhand comment, try to remember, they do thankless, monotonous work for a pittance.
I've worked retail, and food service, and I know there are people who delight in lording their 'power' over retail workers because they know they can. I'm not saying anyone on here is one of those people, but I will say, please don't be. It is petty and mean and stupid. Just because that person is wearing a red shirt and a nametag and makes six dollars an hour and nothing else doesn't mean they aren't a person worthy of your respect and consideration.

You raise an interesting point, and one I and others have touched on many times before.
The problem you run into with action figures is that they are classified as toys generally sold in retail stores, where the majority of toy buyers are parents for their children and or children for themselves. Joe fans purchasing Joes for themselves is somewhat akin to purchasing porn in the toy aisle. You find the porn (standing in for action figures) in the toy aisle, feel dirty buying it their, but nothing is going to keep you from doing so. However, if some problem arises and you need to return said porn, or you have questions about when the next installment of Ballz to the Wall will be available, again, you just feel dirty and somewhat wrong. But what else can you do?! This porn you want so badly is only sold in the toy aisle, so tale between your legs you take that porn to the cash register and hope onlookers don't judge you too harshly. The trick honestly is to grow a stronger constitution, realize not everyone understands this hobby of ours, and move on with your life. You won't change the world in a day. That being said, thankfully more and more adults are buying action figures and various toys not just for their kids, but g-damnit, for themselves and proudly so! I say always wear that fan badge loud and proud, and to HELL with toy clerks and ingnorant retail workers! After all, you pay their meager salary and technically they work for you. |

Yes, any former retail worker (myself included) can tell you that sometimes they mess with us just because they can. That being said, I have met some incredibly giving and hard working retail folks, willing to go above and beyond to help me. It's really all about balance, and knowing that what you give to the world is often what you get. |

A simple please and thank you go a long way.
Yeah, some workers are rude and ignorant but I just turn around and go speak to a store manager and explain the situation...eventually getting what I want. and you know guys what goes around comes around...vile folks eventually get what they deserve.

All the employees I've run into don't give a rat's arse what I return. As long as I have that receipt, their jobs are easier.

I don't have that problem. Actually, if anything...from the cute girl stocking the toy aisle and the curious person on the checkout, they always have questions but so far never had any problems.
Most have been curious. Now, the only time I sense something is when it's a store I've never been to before and the person doing the stocking is a collector themselves. One guy I met (and now friends with), he was very standoffish but the more we talked, as a collector he just hated scalpers. And so, I understood where he came from. Another was during the rare Target Marvel Legends Toy Biz sale for $2.99 a figure (and I bought a whole wave and its variants) and because there was a lot in my cart, the Target cashier said something "this is for you not your son? You bought nothing for him?" ...I was annoyed, but I just ignored her, paid and left.
