Sorry if this has been asked before - I have been on a little bit of a Joe kick lately. I have gone through several collecting phases where I will buy/sell in a cycle. I have collected a lot of the Joe stuff released from 2007 to the present and have not looked back at the classic 3 3/4" o-ring joes. I recently came across my o-ring guys (I collected them up until they stopped making them in 2005) and realized how awesome they are.
I was just wondering if anyone had any insight as to why Hasbro abandoned the o-rings for the new molds. Also, would you guys like to see Hasbro return the to the o-ring if the line continues? |

Like everything else, I bet cost has something to do with it. Maybe the price of rubber for the o ring went up.

I was only kidding, but I researched the history of rubber price and this really might be why. From 82 to 96 it went from 1440 to 5204. By 05 it jumped to 6699. I am no rubber expert so I am not sure if the rubber per 100kg is the same rubber hasbro used, but I am pretty sure this might have influenced the decision. |

3 3/4 version was because the price of plastic went up. It was cost cutting measures. They also Wanted to reboot the franchise from its hiatus due to the vietnam war making toy soldiers unpopular. My understanding is that this is why they stopped the 12 inch version. By 82 the stigma was gone and America was turning patriotic again. |

A lot of the o ring tooling was lost or destroyed over the years. Some of it was damaged after being mishandled by Funskool too. That coupled with the trend of more detailed figures becoming the norm in the mid 2000's probably sealed o ring figures fates.
