Well I signed. I normally would just ignore this kind of stuff, but I would actually like to go to JoeCon one day and I feel like this could be the last nail in the coffin for GI Joe. After all, Hasbro has pretty much shown they are done with gijoe what with the TrU exclusive line and them being labeled "Adult Collectible". Honesty, I dont really expect Hasbro to keep it around; Transformers is far more profitable for them.

Signed as well. As an international GI Joe fan I hope to one day be able to make the transatlantic journey to visit the JoeCon!

I signed it. As much as I hate the club's shoddy quality control, they are the only ones that make any effort to get us the stuff we want. I'd rather have fun pub than no club.

Well, it looks like it passed the 1500 mark. Stretch goal is now 2500.

Hasbro doesn't pay ANYTHING for the current GI Joe Collectors Convention. FunPub pays Hasbro for the rights to use the Official GI Joe Branding, as well as access to tools and facilities for the production of exclusive product (which itself might be cost burden to Hasbro with continued cost increases in China), as well as any fees or licensing costs. There is NOTHING to stop another group from doing a GI Joe centric convention, they just aren't going to have the approval and support (in terms of access to materials) that an official Club would have. The problem is...are there any groups or individuals willing to take the risk and invest the money to create a new GI Joe Collector Club or Con? THAT'S probably a bigger hurdle right now.

Signed.
The petition was started based on some accurate information, not purely speculation. ALL Joe fans should sign. At best, we get a JoeCon next year. At worst, Hasbro is forced to take notice of a strong, unified fan-base. Would love to see 10,000 signatures on this thing, and hopefully it will get picked up in mainstream media like last year's Cobra Commander/Springfield key to the city event got picked up on MTV and MSNBC. |
