With 2008 being the birth of the modern era figures, and here we are with 2015 nearly complete, I paused to consider the differences.
For one, in the ME we've had a run now from 2008-2015, the equivalent of the original run would be 1982-1989. In 1982 there were 16 figures released...in 2008 over 150. All told 1982-1989: ~250 figures released 2008-2015: Over 700 (including convention sets and FSS) With another movie on the way that will surely bring even more figures, I think we can honestly say the ME run has been quite successful and prolific....

Two things come to mind though...Is it fair to count the FSS figures (convention sets I would say are a "maybe" but I would discount FSS), and how many mainstream-release figures (from both time-spans) have been repaints or straight re-releases? I would argue we should "adjust" the counts down for those.
But yeah, still a good run of product. Just never enough for our ravenous appetites!

Yea, I thought about taking the time to adjust the counts to individual versions and/or convention & FSS. At the end of the day though, as a collector, I enjoy multiple variations (for both eras). So from a collector perspective I think showing the numbers of what we've had access to speaks volumes about the line.

One small point though: ME began in 2007, not 2008. I totally agree that it's been a great run so far, and I think there is still a lot of potential.

Just some food for thought, again not a complaint just a small point. From 82-89 Most of what was released were orginial characters and or orginal concepts. Meaning, between 82-89 there were only 3 Snake-Eyes figures released, between 2007 and 2008 there were 9. I love Both Era's but its apples to oranges when trying to make comparisons.

1986 was the year that Hasbro started doing repaints (Mission Brazil) but they didn't really get full into it until '88-'89 (Tiger Force, Night Force, Python Patrol, Slaughter's Marauders and more Night Force). I didn't mind it back then cause I liked different uniforms on my troops. Now they will repackage figures in a different line with no significant differences. Do we include those in the numbers?

Repaints have been done from the beginning of the brand using the same body mold to make different characters with some minor paint changes is a good way to stretch a buck in the manufacturing process. I think during the 80s Hasbro did this very well keeping a good balance of new vs re-used parts but has since really over done this idea at times.

I take your point and positivity. I would say, though, look at the percentage-growth in number of toys produced in the '80's vs. the %decline now, since 2008, to see how the trouble with the movie-lines have hurt the brand.

There are definitely more repaints in the ME than there were in ARAH. And we had a lot more rereleases than in the past. We got like 5 SE figures in ARAH, but have like 23 from the ME lines. Lol
So even though we have gotten 700+ figures, I would say that we actually only have closer to 250 individual characters in ME.
