Many of you know, I started the "Greatest G.I. Joe characters of all time" polls, but had to call it quits due to a new baby and the undertaking of a new project. Lifeline has stepped in admirably with the polls, but due to slow progress with one of my other projects, I am requesting help. If this link works, then all of you will be able to see the project I've been working on.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...uQs/edit#gid=0 I have been recording real G.I. Joe data into a spreadsheet and using the data to mathematically calculate a score for each character. Already, a few tankers have lended a hand, but for the most part, it has been a one man project. The reason I need help is because to complete this project requires the reading of every G.I. Joe comic and the watching of every G.I. Joe cartoon and movie. Character scores have been calculated by assigning each character a score out of 100. Since the purpose of the cartoons and comics were to sell toys, toys recieve the highest weight at 35% of their score. Comics count 30%, cartoons 25%, and live action movies 10%. I've already recorded each characters action figures (hopefully I haven't missed anything) and the old Marvel comic run. Zarana also gave me data for the Arishikage Showdown graphic novel, which I've recorded.

Here is where I need help. I need people to watch the old cartoons and give me data of who appeared in each episode and how many "frames" of the episode they appeared in. I know there is data on how many lines were spoken, but using that data, Wild Bill would be more significant to Resolute, for example, than Snake Eyes. By frames, I mean every time the camera cuts out to get a different angle. A scrolling camera would be the same frame.
I also need people to read the different DDP and IDW comics and let me know how many comics a character appears in and how many panels. If you are able to help, post in this thread, letting me know where you would be able to help. Thanks in advance.

that'd be shots not frames. frames are the individual animation cells or the frames of film. shots are when you go from EXT: THE PIT to INT: BRIEFING ROOM IN THE PIT to CLOSE UP ON HAWK.
I didn't spend three years in college doing media for nothing. |

I've been a real jackass and not followed up on this since agreeing to help.
Really sorry about that. I will try and be helpful again soon. Just way too busy around here lately. |

That would be a massive undertaking counting out how many shots a character appeared in the cartoon. You've got about 100 characters in 95 Sunbow episodes. If 10 appear in each episode, you've got to watch each episode 10 times to get them counted. That would take someone 50 8-hour days of watching the cartoons non-stop.
Actual time on screen would be better than measuring shots and probably easier to do, since you can just sit there with a stopwatch. But depending on how fast the cuts are, you'd still have to be really quick to scan the screen and look for a character before it passes by without slowing down to go through frame-by-frame. Not really a feasible project unless you can give 95 people one episode each to do it. The fanbase and Hisstank traffic is not going to be able to round up that many people. I'd suggest using the data on appearances balanced against line count that is already out there. Other than Snake-Eyes and Nemesis Enforcer, the line count will probably be a fair measure of how much they featured in the episode. SE, you can get his number proportionally by judging if he was a major or minor character in those episodes. |

I havent had as much time as I wanted to to work on it either.
