I've been pretty consistent with my noms for a while now...at this point in the voting it's going to come down to a lot more personal taste and less and less media/comic/cannon exposure...I can tell you very little why you should vote for Mirage or Coldfront except when I was a kid I thought they looked awesome and unique and during my epic battles they were on the front lines kicking butt! That said I don't think they truly deserve spots till 275-325...im just keeping them closer to the top...also Hi-Tech!
Also no idea who Joe Canuck is...

Personal preference has its place for sure. I know that some of the lesser known Joes got a lot of adventures and starring roles in my own personal universe. The Joes from 82-88 probably (someone probably has stats to knock this theory down) got the most play from all of us collectively, which is mostly likely why most of them have been nominated in. They are the greatest among those of us who frequent the tank, because we spent many hours playing with them. The show loses its luster, and the characters don't always hold up so well. The comics can be re-read again and again, and for the most part hold up pretty well in my opinion. The IDW stuff is impressive, and well written, but has little exposure to some. I think the comics are very well cemented in a lot of our minds, as well as personal play and favorites.

Lifeline, I mentioned last thread that you shorted Satan a nom, and it hasn't been fixed. Both he and Wreckage were at 9 2 polls ago, in poll 238 someone gave both of them a nom, but you didn't add it on for Satan.

I think the results of the poll from the beginning show how big an impact the show had on people's preferences. You can see characters like Shipwreck and the Sarge rated very high even though the comic barely featured them. Everyone in the top 50 was on the show except Outback. Out of characters who were on the original show and have won the poll, they're all in the top 100 except for about 21. Last edited by JediJones; 06-20-2015 at 02:17 PM.. |

Would we exclude a Larry Hama tribute figure if it wasn't out yet? I somehow doubt it. Joe Canuck was the first (and a modern version one of the latest) exclusives for the Canadian Joe Con. Though the convention figures here are mass-produced customs rather than factory-made, the group that use to run the con (recently sold so things are in limbo this year) did seek permission from Hasbro to create new Canadian characters to add to the mythos. There's about 20 characters created from the con over the past decade. Some are kinda laughable (Timbit and his pet Beaver), but others are very nice (Coyote Trooper or Black Ice). The original is bloody expensive and hard to find. Quote:
I am surprised though that while the South American joes are starting to get nominations, there has still yet to be a single action force character nominated. That seems odd to me. Quote:

Totally disagree with that. I rewatch the show constantly. Been doing it almost every night this week. Lots of characters are fleshed out much better in the show than they ever were in the comic. Shipwreck, to name one. The show gave them strong, colorful personalities. I think the results of the poll from the beginning show how big an impact the show had on people's preferences. You can see characters like Shipwreck rated very high even though the comic barely featured them.
No, its not great television. But the comic is not great literature either. These aren't meant to be genre defining, they're meant to be fun. Would I re-watch them as frequently as JJ does? no. Have I enjoyed the few episodes I've started to watch through? yes. The plots may be contrived, but many of the characters as JJ says definitely get better featured then they did in the comic - Shipwreck, the twins, the dreadnoks, Spirit, Lifeline, Sci-fi... I may prefer the comic, but I agree that it had its moments. Without the cartoon, there's no way on earth Slaughter would make the top 100 for example. It also significantly boosted Zartan, Flint, Lady Jaye, Beachhead!!, Spirit Falcon, Low Light, Quick Kick, Alpine, Bazooka and the BAT just looking at the top 50. Its extremely influential in perception of the team.

Also, Lifeline, you didn't add on Trazz's noms for CGI and Ninja-Ku near the end of the last thread.

I always heard the Canadian Joe Con figures were customs and not officially licensed by Hasbro. I'm not sure where the line is drawn between seeking permission, i.e., we won't sue you, vs. being an officially licensed product. At this point I'm not buying that the Canadian Joe Con figures meet the standard for being official characters without seeing more evidence.
I think what can be fairly said about the Joe comic and cartoon is that they were the best toy tie-in media of the '80s compared to their competitors. No one seems to argue that the comics and cartoons for He-Man, MASK, Transformers or other properties were better than G.I. Joe, either among fans or the general critical community.
