Is there any toy concept art or prototypes of Sparks that show he was in development as a figure?
I didn't have any pen pals in Brazil back in the '80s. When did anyone in the U.S. actually become aware of foreign figures like that? I read the first 80 or so comics. I can remember Candy Appel clearly, but have no memory of Professor Appel, and looking at his pictures on Google didn't help. He didn't make any impact on me. I really would've thought Candy would get in before a fat, balding Crimson Guard. Vypra is a repainted ninja who's not a ninja. Just stupid. I started hating the G.I. Joe line in the late '80s when they started doing repaints. The 1997 relaunch was a disaster of bad figures with low quality control. Repainting vehicles is one thing but repainting a figure from head to toe AND calling it a new character was a new low. These foreign repaint characters are similarly unimaginative, unconvincing and unacceptable as part of the mythos. Sgt. Savage was just a huge all-around disaster. The story was a boring rip-off, the figure design was piss-poor, it was an unacceptable replacement for ARAH, everyone hated it from the moment it came out and it was a huge sales disaster in toy stores. Nothing from that line should win the poll. Last edited by JediJones; 05-07-2015 at 02:30 PM.. |

This is what I'm looking at for separating the different characters who share the same file name or code name.
Input welcome. Debate will be open until poll 220 (or when Stone gets in in his case). I will be PMing those who nominated Stone to clarify which one. All nominations for Long Range are presumed to be for the ARAH version. ----------------------------------------------------------- Airborne (1983) and Airborne (Sky Patrol) - separate characters with the same code name Altitude and Major Altitude - separate characters Cobra Commander and Krake - different characters. (The CC that Chuckles kills in IDW is the first) Croc Master and Croc Master II - different characters, one succeeding the other Dial Tone and Dial Tone - siblings Diana, Volga and Verna -- different names fr the same character Doc (Carl) and Doc (Carla) - different characters, one suceeding the other Dusty (Tadur) and Dusty (Paquet) - same character with different name probably for TM/C issues Heavy Metal, Rampage and Speed Metal - I'm tempted to separate into three, but think the best is to all Heavy Metal and Rampage as one (the tank driver) and Speed Metal as separate due to his re-imagining Lifeline (Steen) and Lifeline (Scott) - same character who was changed presumably for copyright issues Long Range (ARAH), Long Range (S6) Long Range (DTC) - ARAH is separate from S6 and DTC who are the same Mainframe and Dataframe - same character (Copyright issues) Rock and Roll and Bench Press - different characters who happen to share a file name Shockwave and Shockblast - same character (Copyright issues) Sidetrack (Boyce - Medic) and Side Track (McLaughlin - Demolitions) - separate characters (How these were released so close together boggles my mind) Lt. Stone (Exteme), Lt. Stone (Sigma Six), Sgt Stone (ROC) - all separate characters. They're just too different to reconcile. If I missed any let me know. |

Pretty much agree (can't comment on Long Range or Side Track iterations since I know nothing about those characters). And I don't even want to dig into the headache-inducing Heavy Metal/Rampage stuff. Except...

Are you going to go through all the old polls to see who nominated Stone every time? Last edited by JediJones; 05-07-2015 at 02:54 PM.. |

I agree on all points.
Has anyone tried slapping on a Rock'nroll head on Bench press? I don't think I have seen that one. There is a separate Rampage altogether who is notthing like Heavy Metal: Rampage (v2) G.I. Joe Action Figure - YoJoe Archive

I like and include both characters in My Verse, but that's just me. Extreme Stone is the only Marine Officer in GI Joe. Patchy Stone is just cool looking.

Still hard to know if Hasbro got the Rock 'N Roll code name rights secured again since no other version of him has come out since the Bench Press version. The first trademark issues with his name cropped up with the 2001 version, where midway through production they changed him to a Flint figure. Since then, they've never used the pure Rock 'N Roll name for him. Rock 'n Roll / Flint (v6) G.I. Joe Action Figure - YoJoe Archive |

It just occurred to me that Lifeline is probably still ignoring JJ's posts and has missed some good stuff, unless there is some PMing going on to break bread.
