I am a non-attendee and do miss out on some of the exclusives. But the reality is that those that spend the time and money to attend the Con should have the opportunity to resell some of the exclusives and recoup their costs. If they can profit from the exclusives is fine by me. After finding out that they can wait on the line to buy exclusives at the Con for up to 7 hours, I think they are entitled to make money. On my end if I really want the exclusive and feel comfortable with the price I will buy it, if not, I do not have to have it. I paid $100 for the 2011 Cobra De Aco and I do not regret it. On the other hand, NF Crazylegs for $100, do not need him even if I own the NF Con set.

I don't mind scalping of exclusives; the market will decide price.
However...I do NOT approve of scalping the custom class parts. Why? That takes a seat from someone who might otherwise have enjoyed CUSTOMIZING. You know, the point of the class? I like what they decided to do: offer bonus accessories to anyone who makes their custom in class. Nice idea!

I am non-attendee. I guess the way I look at it, GT holders and others should get first pick of the stuff, but maybe a reasonable limit on the number of each item? Then, toward the end of the con, they could open it back up to everyone. I would attend if they ever come closer to me (DC is close enough, and someone else asked for that). I would be angry enough to risk a fight if I waited in line to buy one or two of a figure and told they are gone and some dude is walking away with 50 of them. Saying that...I did "pre-order" the TF Lifeline. I was looking for a POC/30th Lifeline on feebay, and the TF Lifeline pre-orders were cheaper and all the same gear (which is what I really wanted). I don't know if this is a scalper or someone just selling the figures out of the set that he doesn't want. The price was reasonable enough that it didn't seem like a money maker when you divide the price by the number of figures.
If I were able to go, I would do my best to hook up any that asked but I doubt I would buy extras just to sell. So far, each con set has a couple of figures I like, but not enough to buy the whole set. Last year, the best figures IMHO, was the two pack with Clutch and was it Ice Storm? |

It's not the guy selling stuff that frustrates me the most. It's all the d-bags bidding on the same items I'm trying to buy off eBay that truly upset me. Don't you have a job, or a wife, or something else to do? I'm serious, go away and let me win every auction. It's not a tough request, just stop bidding. You can't justify spending that much money on toys. I'm mildly retarded so I don't have to.

Traveling cost and time is NOT any less for someone who attends on Saturday for general admission. And the exclusives bought minutes before they enter get a huge markup.

Just curious, but what did the bag and boxed sets sell for from the Club?

i hate scalpers and when I see joecon I only see the "con" Part. Also $30 for a figure that still has a bad paint job is just nuts, I would never

My wife picked me up a Tiger Force Lifeline a month ago because I sorta wanted one. Long story, but she remembered me looking at one and saying I could live with that deco (outlandish as it is) over the red jumpsuit/go-go boot version, which I showed her a picture of. Mind you, it wasn't a pressing concern of mine or something I brought to her attention...she just started talking to me while I was looking at Joes online and she saw an opportunity to do something nice. So, she surprises me with it and I, of course, don't ask where she got it or what she paid for it. Later, though, I checked the ebay prices and was stunned. It's a nice figure at 10-12 bucks, but at 30-40 it's a POS. Bad paint, poorly assembled, low quality all the way around. It was an awesome gift for the thought behind it, but in the future I'll be careful to not show her anything the club produces. |

The whole world of Club exclusive figures seems completely saturated with the issues of reselling, recouping costs, markups, and just a lot of pretty crass market flipping speculation and the like. It’s bound to happen. It’d be strange if it didn’t. Market forces and all. I just choose not to participate. Never bought a Club figure, and probably never will.
Besides, I hear all the time how people say, “Well just buy all the Club stuff, keep what you want, and resell what you don’t at double/triple the price—cover all your costs and maybe make a little money too!” Okay, so where does “scalping” begin and end? Talk about calling the kettle black…
