So there is a Star Wars Day (May 4th), but is there a GI Joe Day? If there isn't lets start one!!! What day is significant in the GI Joe universe and why.

September 12th 1983 Sunbow cartoon first airs.
I do not believe Hama used any actual dates in the comic. I would have to go back and check to be sure. So nailing down the day that Operation Lady Doomsday or any other missions or events took place would be difficult. Going back to 1964, If you could find out the exact date of the copyright or when Don Levine et al came up with the idea you may have something there. However what needs to be done is to come up with something catchy like "May the fourth" that coincides with some date. There were 7 Joes that were killed in issue 109 so you could use the seventh of Feb. but that is kind of morbid. You could of course just declare any ol' day a GIJOE day. It would not have to have a milestone necessarily.

I like the idea of September 12th but to be fair to all joe collectors we need to incorporate the roots of the classic line as well.
Trying to think of something clever but nothing yet... And yes everyday for me is joe day but an official day gives me an excuse to tell my wife so I can watch and enjoy GI Joe all day, haha. You married guys know what I'm talking about.

March 15'th. Thats most likely when joe launched.
It hit toy shelfs sometime between March and April, or after 64's toy fair. |

February 9.
No Ordinary Joe - Chicago Tribune "G.I. Joe was introduced at the annual American International Toy Fair in New York on Feb. 9, 1964. Buyers from around the world jammed the showrooms, and they laughed at this square-jawed grunt-a ``government-issue`` ordinary Joe-with his authentic uniforms and weapons and lifelike hair." |

Sounds good to me. That way, the wife gets the 14th, and I get the 9th.

I was thinking June 4th for '64, but Feb 9th is an actual date of something.
