I used to really enjoy the "history/retrospective" of said character, looking at it's first iteration in 3 3/4" up through today. But they seem to have done away with it.
The comics are garbage, in my opinion. The reviews by Justin would be great...if I hadn 't already read them on his site 6-9 months beforehand. So...yeah. But I DID like the interview with the new brand manager of Joe. THAT was solid!

the only thing I like are the reviews by Justin honestly, but even they seem a bit too upbeat.

There should be an option to "opt out" of the magazine... maybe there is... i don't know- the site isn't very user friendly. If I could save the paper and not get it monthly I would be just fine. As is- I tend to toss it out (recycle) with the Junk mail.

I enjoy receiving the magazine every month. I do miss the retrospectives.

It shouldn't be called a magazine, that's for sure.

A few articles, a few comic pages, a few Joe product ads. In the pre Internet days I imagine these might have been cool, but now by the time they write up the news articles, interviews, figure reveals, etc it's old news. The comics are only a couple of pages which means each issue is a fraction of a fraction of a story. I honestly haven't read the comics because there is no point in reading it two pages at a time, but I'm holding onto them so I can read them straight through some day.
Also as an aside, a lot of the articles while being packaged as if they were being written professionally were really just "fan articles" (which often lack a deep degree of thorough fact checking and too often report opinion/presumption as if it were fact). I can't remember specifics, but just to give you an example I work in the film industry, and have done work in the past with Paramont, and while I didn't work on Retaliation I do know several of the key members of that cast and crew, have worked with several of the actors, and have known the director since we were both just a couple of USC film students. So I have enough inside knowledge to say that there were a few things said in articles and blogs about the movie and "the industry" that were just factually untrue. I kind of have come to expect that as something that often happens on some fan run websites or in a fan blog, but I would hope to expect a higher standard in an actual publication. I guess my point is that given that by the time the publication comes out most of the news is already known or dated, I wish they would at least balance that by making sure that material was of a higher standard. Just my two-cents. I don't mind getting it every month, but for the most part it's gone collected but unread and there really isn't anything there that you couldn't get elsewhere.

It typically has 2x extremely short comics - one based on 12" AT and on one ME. The ME seems to foreshadow coming figures or highlights them, so last year a lot of them had FSS figures, a zombie threat, Cross Country, etc... The last several if I remember have blended both sides of the hobby into some sort of "shattered glass" story which is hard to follow since the comic is about 4 pages per issue.
-It has a page of notes from Savage and the editor which are normally old news but a decent recap. -Justin Bell normally has some review in it which is pretty good and I look forward to them but he never gets much thanks so he may or may not be contributing anymore. -Ads from places that support the hobby On the plus side, the photography is usually really good along with announcements already seen on the internet like 50th Ann shots from Hasbro, or the next kre-o wave...

I am actually digging the new Cobra Commander/Dr.Mindbender story arc. Kinda feels like the cartoon since they are using the story as a marketing tool for the new FSS/Collectors Club fig.
I'd also like to see Generalsjoes.com do unbiased reviews for the club. The monthly magazine is lacking in the content dept. I swear I finish it in 5 mins. I'd actually be ok with it a more robust magazine coming out every 3 months. |

In the internet age its a dinosaur. The comics are nice for more joe content, but honestly that's the best part.
