All,
So the Joe brand that we love may not be as visible as we'd like these days, but we still have a great dedicated fandom and a lot to celebrate on the 50th anniversary year of the brand. To that end, I wanted to share this as a tribute to the brand, and remember what GI Joe was like back in the 80's. At that time the brand was one of the strongest toy lines available. Mods - I wasn't sure if this should go in Vintage Toy Forum or here, but I figured I would put it here since it seems to be in the spirit of the terrific "Christmas Joe Stories" thread. I was trying to figure out where best to put this as I think a lot of folks may enjoy seeing this stuff. Here are scans from my copy of the 1984 Hasbro Toyfair Catalog. This is the 3rd year of the 80's run of GI Joe, and at this time you can see that GI Joe is a huge hit. GI Joe has the largest section in this Hasbro catalog, with lots of great product. In fact, GI Joe is much bigger at this point than Transformers, which debuted domestically in 1984. This is the retailer catalog that vendors used to order the product, and then sell to customers, so this catalog was probably not widely available to those of us who were kids in the 80's. This catalog also includes case counts for figures/vehicles. I figured fans might enjoy seeing these scans from back in the day, there are a lot of good memories here. I had some good pieces here, including the Hovercraft which was a birthday present and one of my all-time favorite toys. Happy 50th!

That was absolutely awesome. Thank you!
Especially liked the picture of the Rattler, I've only ever saw the scans from the mini catalogs of it. I always wondered what it looked like up close with those larger gun barrels on the turret. |

Awesome. I worked my ass off that summer doing odd jobs like cutting grass and pet sitting to earn money for Joes. I had every item in that catalog.

You should connect with the guy who runs 3DJoes. He's doing scans of catalogues and literature from that era and his work is phenomenal. Would be great to have HQ scans of these pages. Thanks for posting!
