Yea it's funny you say that because I always favored the side kicks or secondary type of characters, a lot of the Joe's posted I like but always realized they are no snake eyes or gung ho or even duke

Oh Word I really like all of the guys I mentioned, That's why I mentioned them, they got a lot of ply just not as trench brawlers or sneaking up on a position and bleeding targets out.

As a kid, anyone with a Beret could do ANYTHING. I don't know why I thought that but that's how it rolled.

You're right! I thought the same thing! The Green Berets were my motivation for that. I thought it was a sad day when the Army made it standard issue for all.

This thread is also good for the inverse, which lesser thought of Joes did you make SUPER bad ass. For me Stalker, Recondo and Falcon were as deadly as anyone, but Ripcords filecard set him up to be an overachiever at everything so he was really effective, and Torpedo was a big hero in my stories early on.

...my boy and I JUST got up to the initial invasion of the first Springfield, playing Joes this weekend. I have been working on a 1:18th city area with an extensive enterprises building, a power, utilities substation, a real estate office, dumpsters garbage cans, pallets crates and roads... Anyway he asked to get the "Biker gang" out in it so I set up the 'noks and a ton of jis diecast cars and trucks and construction stuff in that scale, then populated it with Cobras and Joes and we played battles on and off all weekend.

Joes got a bit of an improvement in 1984, in my opinion. It was always difficult for me to think of the 82-83 guys as "tough".
