That's not all the logic. It's implying they are star villains in their episodes. Pythona is just a co-star secondary villain but she did have a longer storyline in running time.
Looks like Ambush is getting the highest percentage since Slip-Stream almost 20 slots ago. A surprisingly strong showing for sure. Apparently he was overdue. I think that's the 4th 1990 figure to make it in but more are on the rise. Topside really needs some love though. Last edited by JediJones; 11-30-2014 at 08:53 PM.. |

Not even CLOSE! Gamesmaster was the "star" of one 24 minute episode. No figure. No comic appearance. Pythona was a co-star of a 100 minute film, had 8 comic appearances (all in G.I. Joe vs. Transformers crossovers), and is by far the most demanded non-produced figure in G.I. Joe. G.I. Jane did not appear in any televised media. She however has 16 comic appearances (2 in ARAH, 2 in its continuation, 7 in America's Elite including some major ones, 2 in frontline). in the recent comics she has a ship named for her (USS G.I. Jane). She appeared multiple times in the 12 inch lines, and has a 3 3/4 inch figure. Pythona definitely had the most impact, but G.I. Jane is at absolute worst equally worth as gamesmaster if not far more. |

Grand Slam got accused of tap dancing on Major Bludd's face. That conversation still stays with me decades later.

Mojo's first appearance was in December 1985, after Gamesmaster aired.
If we want to talk about comic rip-offs there's that whole Sgt. Savage/Cap'n America thing. Of course Cobra/Hydra and G.I. Joe/Fury Force. A cartoon appearance in one of the most widely viewed cartoons of the '80s rates far higher than appearances in the obscure 2000s G.I. Joe comic books with their tiny readership. You can't have "impact" on the brand if barely anybody ever read your story. I already said I don't consider the 12" stuff the same G.I. Joe and don't count that toy line for anything in this poll. Ambush fell a couple points under Cobra Officer now but still I think he's the first '90s figure to get this high a percentage. He really is a great figure and definitely would've beaten Bullhorn in the poll in a head-to-head. Last edited by JediJones; 11-30-2014 at 10:05 PM.. |

But Fanboys have been wanting a Pythona since she first melted the Joe fence away! The Gamesmaster episode was a neat concept, but pretty far fetched even for Sunbow - and not to mention the whole Mojo ripoff! I could live without a Gamesmaster figure, but I 'need' a Pythona at some point to make my collection complete!
Add Candy Appel and Big Lob (since we are talking movie & all!) I don't really have any issue with Gamesmaster being in the top 200. It was a memorable episode and a fun character, so when his time comes I'll be happy to support him, but he's no where near as memorable as Pythona, and should be well behind Zanya, Blackout, Savage, Jane, Chemeleon and some of the other non 80s, non ARAH "poll warmers".

And I definitely agree with you on the whole Cap/Savage angle!

There's also some Kingpin in Gamesmaster's appearance and the idea he's super large and strong despite his rotund physique. He was partly a cool mash-up of some less high-profile Marvel villains. I'm not sure if his manchild personality was based on anything though. I know at the time that seemed like an original idea I hadn't heard of before for a villain and it made him seem funnier and creepier.
