They both seem like hey would naturally age into grizzly honored bound old soldiers so I would hve to pick my favorite of the two...RnR, but now he would be General McConnel.

Gung Ho and Rock 'N Roll are both followers, not leaders.
I always wanted to see Stalker in the chain of command. He served as field commander a few times. Even if you age him to the point where he's sort of a Danny Glover "I'm getting too old for this shit" type of guy, he'd still be great. Otherwise, I'd go for one of the guys from the late 80's like Falcon or Spearhead or somebody that seemed younger and had a spark of leadership to them. |

OP, what you're describing is similar to what DDP Comics did in 2001. The Joes were disbanded in 1994, and then they were reformed in 2001. Hawk was still in command (sort of) and Duke was his number two. Returning Joes were Stalker, SE, Scarlett, Rock 'n' Roll, Gung Ho, Wild Bill, Roadblock, Spirit, Flint, Lady Jaye, Shipwreck, Dusty, Lifeline, Mainframe, and Jinx-all acting as training officers /field commanders for a group of potential Joes. Kamakura was the first named new Joe to be introduced.

I don't think any of the known characters from 1993 would still really be around. We would essentially need someone that was combat arms background in the rank of Army Captain in that time frame to be a general officer now. I think of Fort Benning's current CG, MG Scott Miller as that type and age group. He was a young officer in Somalia which was in 1991 and is now a 2-star general and has essentially commanded a Joe type unit when he commanded the NATO Special Operations Command in Afghanistan. I won't consider Grid-Iron as my choice even though he fits the profile - he would need a 100% make-over to include a new personality and code-name.
As for RnR or Gung-Ho, it is a toss up - both would be realistically retired by now. They would have over 32 yrs of service each if the were new recruits in '82 and mandatory retirement is 35 yrs for E-9s in the Army, unsure of the USMC but I bet it is the same.

I appreciate all the input. Falcon was a choice of mine actually. Seemed like he fit the bill.

Major Barrage would be the right age as well. Hawk was an Artillery Officer.

Gung-Ho and RnR are probably organizing pinochle tournaments at the old soldiers home...

I'm working on a similar project. I picked a small group of Joes from 1988 on as as trainers & mission leaders. The rest are all brand new characters that I have come up with. I chose Falcon to be the team's leader. As for your question, I would go with RnR.

Gung ho was a sergeant major (e-9), rNr was a ssgt (e-6), so based on that, gung Ho most likely takes command as he would have been on Generals staff giving him insight and command leadership

I say RnR. He is a surfer at heart and rocks out, but he is all business on the battlefield.
