Steel Brigade. Add Soft Master.
Here's my pitch again: I know that this character/group suffers because of a lack of characterization, but consider what else is brought to the table. The original action figure was pretty cool in its notion of bringing us into the world of G.I. Joe. Who didn't think it was cool to get their own figure with their own filecard and start fighting alongside Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow? The concept was taken a step further when a few (two? three?) fans won a contest and had their likenesses and characters actually added into the mythos. I know that some people see these figures as G.I. Joe greenshirts, but I always favored the interpretation that they were the most elite unit of the team (or a parallel international force). Who wants to see themselves as the bottom rung of the team? The former interpretation is supported by that set where Duke, Mutt, and Roadblock were released with Steel Brigade helmets. The latter was the case when we got that set with Gung-Ho and Dragonsky. I know that some object to army builders winning the poll, but honestly, when this figure first came out, did anyone see it as an army builder? I didn't have the resources to troop build a mail away. My Steel Brigade figure as a kid was just another named member of the team. Steel Brigade was analogous to Ranger or SEAL. Let's see the Shooter votes swing to Steel Brigade. |

Why Thunder?
1: He's from 1984 and the earliest released named figure to have not yet won the poll. 2: He had 9 speaking roles and 9 other appearances in the Sunbow cartoon. The only characters who were figures to have more lines than him in the cartoon series who haven't yet won the poll are Slip-Stream and Golobulus. 3: His headset's cool. 4: The Slugger's cool. 5: In the episode "Battle for the Train of Gold," Thunder's friendship with a Kentucky horse farmer is essential to the plot. 6: In the 2-part episode "Captives Of Cobra," Thunder has to deal with his brainwashed parents and sister trying to kill him. This is part of a plot that involves the relatives of Joe Team members being brainwashed. 7: He has a passion for heavy metal music, peanut brittle and cars with bad mufflers. |

Honestly, I don't know who will take this one, which is a nice surprise. I don't think Thunder will take it this first time. Raptor did well against Shooter last time. Steel Brigade off to an early good starts ....taking the lead after 65 polls or so! Zanya...Bullhorn..... I have a feeling the winner is not going to take it by much....and the winning percentage is going to be low. Should be interesting.
