I know the next poll doesn't start for a few hours, but now is the time to start thinking about the Steel Brigade.
I know that this character/group suffers because of a lack of characterization, but consider what else is brought to the table. The original action figure was pretty cool in its notion of bringing us into the world of G.I. Joe. Who didn't think it was cool to get their own figure with their own filecard and start fighting alongside Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow? The concept was taken a step further when a few (two? three?) fans won a contest and had their likenesses and characters actually added into the mythos. I know that some people see these figures as G.I. Joe greenshirts, but I always favored the interpretation that they were the most elite unit of the team (or a parallel international force). Who wants to see themselves as the bottom rung of the team? The former interpretation is supported by that set where Duke, Mutt, and Roadblock were released with Steel Brigade helmets. The latter was the case when we got that set with Gung-Ho and Dragonsky. I know that some object to army builders winning the poll, but honestly, when this figure first came out, did anyone see it as an army builder? I didn't have the resources to troop build a mail away. My Steel Brigade figure as a kid was just another named member of the team. Steel Brigade was analogous to Ranger or SEAL. Let's see the Shooter votes swing to Steel Brigade. |

Raptor has his talons sunk into the next round. But there will be some allegiance-shifting with Thunder entering the poll. Can the bird stay airborne with Zanya and the Steel Brigade drafting his wake?

I get why he's not *more* popular, but it actually tears me up inside seeing that someone like "Shooter" is more popular and considered a "greater G.I.Joe [character]" than Skidmark. I mean, seriously. Shooter. Someone that probably half of the fanbase has never even heard of, and even more than that prior to the start of these polls.
Anyway, such is life. Having said that, my nominations are (characters for people to consider campaigning for in coming polls): 1. Starduster 2. Super Trooper 3. Bulletproof --and if he has not already won a poll (which would surprise me considering we're at 111 now and a character like "Shooter" has already won a place): 4. Budo.

Since when is not having a figure an asset for these polls? We've seen time and again how the characters with the earliest made figures have a huge advantage in the polls. As for Barrel Roll, his being one of the cheapest FSS figures on the secondary market and the fact that he doesn't have any noms yet prove he's far less popular than Bombstrike. You guys continually discount the cool factor and the wow factor and point to "characterization" or number of appearances which are far from the only defining factors in popularity.

Obviously there is overlap between popularity of a character and a figure. Vader is a bestselling Star Wars figure because he's a favorite character.
This poll isn't for the "best" it's for the "greatest," a term to be interpreted by the individual as they see fit. "Popular" when I say it simply means who will get the most votes. I'm going to be nomming this guy in the next poll. Who's with me? Last edited by JediJones; 09-16-2014 at 11:15 AM.. |

I'd actually be ok seeing both Starduster and Shadow Tracker pop up soon. In both cases, there isn't a lot of characterization to draw up (Shadow Tracker will feature prominently in the first chaper of the sequel to First Salvo, however).
That being said, I love them both. Shadow Tracker is really cool. Starduster was a favorite of mine as a kid. He was actually high on my top 100 list before I realized that I was supposed to be ranking the greatest and had to revise (something I am sorry to say, beef, that I'm still working on). I acquired Starduster around the same time as my Steel Brigade figure, so he became the proxy for my best friend Matt. His lack of any type of real backstory made him perfect to impose one upon him. |

Budo, Shadow Tracker, and Starduster are all beyond worthy at this point.

Not true at all. Golobulus had way more lines.
