Some of you may remember a post i a started on here called ( Getting kids into g.i joe ).
My reason for starting the post was to let you guys know i was trying to keep up the good g.i joe fight. For those of you who don't know what im talking about here is a quick summary of what happened. A young man by the name of Sabastian contacted me via email replying to an add i had up for a Lego Star Wars starfighter i was selling for 34.50$ When i realized he was a minor ( 10 years old ) , i asked to speak with his mother as i considered the sale to be contract, and as well all know you can not enter into a contract with a minor. So his mother said it was ok, she would buy it. Great! ok all legal now. His mother told me that he ( Sabastian ) had been doing chores around the house and finally earned enough money to buy himself a Lego star wars toy. ( Awesome! ) I can see why he wanted this one, because it was a 89.99$ set at retail and i was selling it for 34.50$. ( I gave them a break and sold it for 50$ shipping included. Shipping was 23$ ) I figured this young lad deserves a bonus. I asked his mother " does he like g.i joe at all ? " Mother: " I don't know ? , Hes so blinded by Star Wars right now " ME: " Im gonna slip 2 g.i joe figures into the star wars box and we will see what he thinks of those ? " ( I put a POC ninja kick S.E and S.S into the package, Hey whats cooler then ninjas to a 10 year old right ? ) Mother: " OK " Me: '' Message me when you get the package and what his reaction is to the g.i joes " Mother: " OK " That was 3 months ago. Not a " hey we got the package ". Not a " he liked " or " didn't like the joes " NOTHING!!! ( Thats what giving them a 7.50$ break on toy/shipping and two 10$ figures gets you ) Not even a Thank You. I mean im not so wrapped up in myself that i NEED to be gratified for this ( ill get to sleep tonight just fine. LOL ) So in summary thats what giving 27.50$ out of your own pocket to strangers is worth. A BIG FAT ZERO! Thank you for listening to my rant. Over and out.

That's a pretty crappy move on the Mom's part... A "hey we got it" would be automatic (I would have thought)

Yeah I hear you bro. But a good deed is it's own reward at the end of the day. What I've learned over the years is don't have a high expectation of what other's action/reaction might be. You did a really cool thing, and who knows, maybe good karma is right around the corner. It may not be instant, but karma is constant ;)

Not a " hey we got the package ". Not a " he liked " or " didn't like the joes " To be fair, the mom warned you he probably wouldn't care with the "blinded by Star Wars right now" comment. Plus, he's probably into building toys a lot more than action figs. Maybe if you sent him Joe Kreos it would've been different. Regardless, we need to remember that not everyone looks at toys in the same way we do. The mom is probably like most adults and toys only enter her consciousness when she has to find a particular one for her son or when she's picking them up off the floor. To this mom it was just a transaction, and to the kid it was simply about getting something he wanted. Don't take it as a personal slight or sign that the social contract is kaput. |

There's no such thing as karma. You have to do what's right and expect absolutely nothing in return. Maybe you'll be rewarded in the afterlife (maybe).

You do know you mis-used " over & out ". Over means to continue the conversation and Out is to end the conversation --- So you use one or the other but not both. Most mis-used military term ever so you are forgiven. That was free btw =)

CD, don't let it get to you. You're a better person for it. I too wonder what ever happened to common courtesy. Nowadays, you're lucky to even have the buyer follow up with feedback, let alone a thank you.

The mom did not sound overly thrilled to begin with.
Her son, seemed to try to buy the lego set without her knowing, and I imagine she was being cautious. Her "OK" response was pretty cold and noncommittal. After all you are used to buying and trading in this way but perhaps she was not, maybe she was just being cautious or protective. It was a cool thing you did, tossing in the extra joes, perhaps you threw her for a loop. Look at it from her point of view. A stranger, (strike 1) online (strike 2) wants to give her son a gift without even knowing him. What is this stranger's motivation? why is he so interested in my son's play habits? Again, you did a cool thing but in today's society, people are more cautious. I bet if you had tossed in a lego Star Wars figure, things may have been different. but don't stop being a nice guy or let it frustrate you, people are people, and they are all going to react different. On the other hand, the anonymity of being online does tend to decrease pleasantries and common courtesy. So in short, you did a nice thing, and need to keep doing nice things. Even if the person you do a nice thing for, does not appreciate or acknowledge it.
