Common courtesy is an oxymoron today. Too many people are too self centered and inwardly focused.
Take heart though, there a few of us left who still remember that other people are sentient beings with thoughts and feelings of their own and not things placed there for one's own benefit only to be forgotton about once their ends have been met. Example, I bought a UBP Short Fuze off e-bay last year, the guy forgot to include his helmet, I e-mailed him, politely, about the oversight, he apologized and sent me the helmet, he also sent me the Destro that came with the UBP complete with his accessories and file card for my troubles. What did I do, I thanked him sincerly for the extra and left him great positive feed back because he did go that extra mile when the helmet would have sufficed. Although I didn't mention the freebie in the feedback cause others would surely have taken advantage of that. The point is, they may be a dying breed, but considerate people are still out there.

Is it really that big of deal? Kid maybe loving the figs right now and mom might just got involved with life and forgot about the total strange weird Guy that talked to her about her son's toy interest.

I don't quite get the frustrastion to the point of a 2nd thread, you did a good deed, let that satnd on it's own, making the 2nd thread seems more like fishing for ego purposes which kinda defeats the purpose of doing a good deed, you should just be happy that you may have opened a door for a young kid, not that adulation of other collectors and members of the board

What you did was awesome, but like one of my bosses used to say... "I'm not patting you on the back for doing something I didn't ask you to do." (in terms of going beyond the call)
Doing "extra" and expecting a reward for it (even if it's just a simple thank you) isn't practical. Don't let one non-response stop you from being generous in the future though. Some day it will pay off in spades. |

Maybe both the mother and child were so awe struck by the sheer awesomeness of the g i joes that they started immediately playing with them together and have since stopped all other functions in their life including email?
In all seriousness enjoy that you did a good thing, don't worry about how it works. I've done good things which I thought were meaningless and had people tell me later they had a profound impact on their lives and I've done amazing, expensive, time invested things for people and had them ignored. You get from life what you put in to it and you are putting in good doing stuff like that. More to the point We had a florida meet in tampa, it was the first I ever went to. All day long people kept driving by thinking it was a garage sale a couple people thought it was cool but most said something negative coupled with oh its just gijoe. A father and his son got out and walked the tables. The kid was totally wide eyed but after looking around his dad herded him back into the truck. I figured the prices on cool stuff must have been too high. I grabbed a dark ninja and bolted to the truck, I asked the father if it was ok and gave the kid the ninja. Did that kid like it? Did it make his day? Was the father angry? Does it matter..... We don't always get to know. You did a good thing be proud of yourself hopefully someday you'll see a post here from a guy whose passion started from a random gift in some forgotten lego set. |

the kid is into lego and star wars. gijoe action figures are not star wars or lego.
in a related story: I gave my son (age 6) many, many star wars and gijoe action figures for christmas and his birthday (in april). he opened and played with a few. but, most of them are not even opened. they just sit in a box of old toys in his room. he loves his legos though! every time we go to the store he wants legos. all is not lost. I gave his cousin some joes and star wars figures for christmas as well. he plays with them every day. according to his dad, who was surprised. I also gave a few figures to some neighbor kids who for the most part seemed very happy to get them. Last edited by Indiana Joe; 09-03-2014 at 12:16 PM.. |

Listen, I can't be clear enough.
If you act like an asshole, you're going to get a temporary, if not permanent ban. Of course, your ban will be because ZOMG TEH MODZ R OUT TO GET YOU and not based on your behavior. No, not at all. Read the rules. If you don't agree with them, leave. |
