Do Alley Vipers even need to see?
If they are in a situation where they take a hallway, or a room, or some other installation, I could see them creating a turtle-like phalanx. Visors down, heads down, shields up to protect the group. Much like Spartans abosorbing the brunt of their enemy's onslaught. They stand steadfast, with their visors down, heads down, take what gets thrown at them, then they flip the visors up, and march forward taking a little ground, securing it, and doing it all over again because they have the perfect armor for it. I could see them working this phalanx style, all the time. So they really wouldn't need to see, until they thinned out the pack of oncoming combatants. Then they would flip the visors up, and have at it with their machine guns, and whatnot. They would be so defensive for the first part, that it would make an offensive force break down, become weak, and lose the battle. |

I like the way you think.Seems like a sound enough idea to me. Alley Vipers don't really fit into my joe world, only the stuff up till 86, but I did always like the fig. I know I've read other people post the visor has a computer readout on the inside, but I like your theory much better.

Cool observation man. It's funny, I just watched 300 again last night. I never thought that the Alley Viper blast visors were opaque, maybe there's a screen for a HUD inside?

The tactic would work better against firearms if their shields were the square "roman style" shields that SWAT teams use nowadays, but "Rule of Cool" I suppose. The angular design on the other hand, means it's as leathal in offense as well as defense (a favorite tactic of Spartans).

That's why I prefer the design on the original file card. It shows them looking over the face shield. I plan on do some mod work so my new 7 packs will look like that!

I always figured it was a HUD as well. I would love to see a conventions set with the AV original mold done in the blue/gray urban camo.

I think I may give mine some sort of longer baton, or some type of spear weapon that attaches to the backpack to keep in line with the Spartan idea.
I don't like the little baton the figure is coming with, I want them to have a weapon with a little more distance on it. More like a pike, than a spear. |
