It's easy to be frustrated and second guess the company. There are probably a myriad of reasons.
I'm no expert on marketing, or on toys in general, but it seems to me that G.I.Joe is stretching too far in trying to keep several unrelated Joeverses going at the same time. The movies, the comics (the comics themselves include at least two separate Joeverses right now), and animated line, and related toys. Maybe you can't keep the adults collectors and the kids and parents, and the general moviegoing public happy with the same thing? Maybe something has to give? Maybe they need to stop producing action figures or comics completely for a little while - if that frees up resources to focus on the parts of the brand that have more traction, perhaps that could generate capital to bring those back more successfully in five years. I'm not into collecting action figures. I would personally love to see a live action TV show aimed and adults combined with a high quality video game. But maybe that isn't what would work. They've certainly tried lots of different approaches, you can't say they aren't trying to keep G.I.Joe going. It may just not be in the ways we would like to see. |

What this could mean to us as fans & collectors, is that Hasbro will have a greater chance to develop & release something that complements our existing collections. I believe it is the waiting for that perfect SOMETHING to be released for our Joe toys that keeps us all buying new G.I. Joe toys & keeps us interested in threads like this. |

As far as the whole "Getting away from the military in GI Joe" goes.....
I personally think Hasbro should embrace the military part of GI Joe. No matter how many ninja's or zombies Hasbro throws into GI Joe, parents are always going to think of GI Joe as a Military toy. So why fight it. Not to mention GI Joe's best years (Sales wise) was when it was more military. The beginning of the 12 inch, then the beginning of the 3 inch. Plus, True Heroes and other military type brands seem to sell toys with no problem what so ever. I would say I have seen 5 times more parents and kids buying those then I have GI Joe. |

I agree. Thundercats had a huge push and failed despite all they did. It really comes down to naking what kids want. Right now that is Ninja's, Robots, Electronics, and games. an Hasbro make those things? They could but there is still no guarantee that kids will latch on. Who would have thought Monster themed dolls and a movie called Frozen would be a hit?
What Hasbro really needs to do is hire a few people who really love toys and put them to task finding out what kids want. Not just a questionnaire but an in-depth review of what drives the kids of today. Until they do this, nothing good will happen.

Hasbro needs to get a cartoon that looks like the toys and they will sell again. To expect a toy line these days or any days to sell without a cartoon they will fall short. Plus the show needs to be on a common television channel like ABC, CBS, FOX. Something you can get without Cable. Freaking Cartoon Network killed Thundercats, there is no doubt in my mind. They Killed Thundercats and they killed the New He-man Show as well.

I am not sure if it has been brought up before but I think they missed a real opportunity as a "Clone Wars" like cartoon series from Retaliation. At the beginning they talked about the "Nano-mite Wars", which may have just been Rise of Cobra but could have been GI Joe's Clone Wars as they imply a larger story with Major Bludd and all.
RPG game would be awesome, I remember my friends and I playing one based on the Steele Brigade form and the GIRPS system.

If they do make a new cartoon they need to make it more like the original Sunbow. Just updated for today. Lots of characters, not just focusing on the same 5 people.
Having figs that are in the show out at the same time the show is on might help too. Ahem......cough, cough.... Renegades. |
