Look what he did for Transformers. Even though those movies get progressively worse they make tons of money. The best parts were the parts with the military, the desert battle from the first one, or infiltrating Chicago in Dark of the Moon. Love him or hate him he knows how to kill people and break things (the job of the military).

Over the last 50 years, how many have gone by with no new product at all? Although really for most of us here, only the last 32 really matter. G.I. Joe isn't a failure. It's a success.

With no major animated cartoon series or film franchise dedicated to keep G.I. Joe in the media, retailers are not going to 100% support any toyline that Hasbro desires to make.
Its really that simple. If they don't dedicate enough resources to make a successful long-running cartoon or a keep a new film on screen every two-three years its almost impossible for a Joe toybrand to survive in retail with Marvel superheroes, Star Wars, Transformers, Ninja Turtles and WWE crowding action figure aisles.

The "I'll wait until it goes on clearance" mentality certainly doesn't help.

Is it Hasbro or the brand ? Both. The target audience is not responding to the product Hasbro is putting out. Why? Just like everything else it varies from person to person. How do you fix it I don't know that you can with what Hasbro is currently doing. G.I. JOE has not stricken with this generation like it did with ours partially due to the fact that Hasbro neglected the real american hero property for more then ten years, kid's our supposed to care about something they've slightly been exposed to I don't think so. Hasbro can't keep going back to the past to fix this, every generation needs there own G.I.JOE. That can be hard to swallow if you have to piss off some old fans to ensure you keep JOE alive so be it. Do you think the majority of the twelve inch guys were happy when the three and three quarter figures came out nope. Its time to move the brand foward and Bay is not going to help with Transformers succeeded in spite of him not because of him.

Obviously GI Joe needs that initial spark, which will set the existing kindling ablaze, and make all these great things like games, cartoons, and of course lots of toys, possible. A big hit movie is clearly the best chance at this. But, you know…two swings, two misses. Third time’s the charm…
So we, and Hasbro, sit and wait, and hope that Paramount can spark something this time. But of course to Paramount, “GI Joe” is just a recognizable label it can slap on a fairly generic action flick, to help sell it. So really, why expect anything different this time around. Except for some superficial tweaks to make it seem more like GI Joe (like CC’s mask in Retaliation).

i think Hasbro mishandled the brand. there are a lot of factors that contributed, but i think a lot of poor decisions cost them a great opportunity and the window seems to have closed on what could have been. oh well.

POC showed us what they COULD do. gi joe should have been built up as the top of the line in quality/consistency action figure toy, where every other 4 inch toy you picked up would fail in comparison.
to many design flaws and inconsistency in quality synergy of the line were a major problem for any kids picking them up or parents picking them up for their kids at retail.
