What if?
I have a question. Have you ever played any table top battle game? Examples: Dungeon and Dragons, Hero Clix, Battletech, Mechwarrior, Risk, Warhammer 40K and the list can go on. Why I ask these things is because I have an ideal. What if you had a way to use your figures and vehicles from GI Joe in a tabletop format? I mean using rules and dice to build your Joe or Cobra army that you could then play a game pitting your Command skills against your friends in a table top game. Just like many other war games I can see a Joe game playing out very well. I am an army builder and buy multiple troops, I think it would be very fun to use those troops in a game. What do you think? I would love to hear your input.

Yes, yes, and yes, lets play. Sounds like fun, and would be a cool way to set up figures in a diorama setting, and then in turn "do" something with them. With the amount of figures, vehicles, and army builders, the skies the limit.
There are many existing gaming rules, like the ones you mentioned already, and a game such as Warhammer 40k, could easily be adapted to the 4 inch scale Joe figures. If we "scaled up" the rules from a game like 40k, I think it could work well. So, your house or mine ? |

I think that it would be a fun. I played 40K and enjoyed the entire hobby. I think it would be great to create such a rule set and to use my figures for more than display.

I certainly like the idea. And it would be interesting to come up with rules and abilites for each unique Joe and Cobra.
That said, you'd need one heck of a table for this simply due to scale. Unfortunately for games like that, there's reasons that everything is "miniatures". |

Count me in! I used to play Warhammer 40K, Blood Bowl and Necromunda from Games Workshop and loved it. But I never acquired the level of skill at miniature painting that I wanted. Those 25mm figs are too damn small for my man hands!
Joe Scale Battles would be excellent!

I play and collect a lot of GW games, and some other older non-GW games. I think some kind of collectable game would be cool, although I am not a huge fan of the Heroclix game mechanics.
The problem is though, GI Joes are somewhat specialized, but not to the degree of super heros, I guess you could argue differences between the top 30 joes, but after awhile I think their stats would be pretty generic. I think the Cobras would be more exciting. I hate the idea of 'Green shirts' but her I would expect you would need them. I do think a 40k-like format which would require painting of the figures wouldnt work. |

I have done this before. Star wars put out a rule book with the Geonosis playset, I would use that and D&D 2nd edition rules and a set d20. But our games were more based on individual character olr playing although I can see it working for RTS type gaming
