Until the club closes shop, there will always be something to buy. Sucks that Sideshow announced a hiatus of sorts :(

It won't die. It may go on hiatus or they will just cater to the building block collectors and to the jr size line. They won't make the figures adult collectors want unless someone high up look at the brand as not just for kids and open it up make more product for adult collectors.

They need to do what they did in the 70s. People weren't comfortable with war toys so sales lagged, so they redirected the line to Adventure Team. Right now kids' dads are over fighting a war against terrorists. people maybe aren't so comfortable with a cartoon and and toyline about that concept. Redirect the brand so kids don't have to think about their dad who maybe didn't come home.

If by "destined to end" you mean a couple of guys in suits trying their hardest to sabotage the brand, then yes it's destiny.

I am so tired of these threads. Gi Joe has been through many transitions from 12" to 3 3/4 to 8" and then back to 3 3/4. Heman, Star Wars, TF and Joe will constantly evolve. Some lines will go faster than others.
Maybe it will go away once the dudes like me who grew up with ARAH stop, but that isn't going to happen anytime soon. |

Everything will end at some point! But with every ending comes new beginnings. Gi joe has had multiple incarnations throughout its 50 year history and will mostlikely have many more in the next 50 years. So I leave you with a quote Hasbro left us with in feb of 1994 "Old soldiers never die they just fade away". Gi joe has since had quite a few in carnations after that statement 20 years ago.

Only if Hasbro continues to foolishly evolve into a multimedia company.

GI Joe will be dead by 2064.
We'll probably all be dead by 2064. We'll all definitely be dead by 2114. Yer kids'll probably be dead by 2114. Humanity as we know it will be dead by 8164. Earth'll be baked to a cinder by 6 billion years from now. In two trillion years, the universe will be dying...

Far as I know, I didn't keep up with star wars toys too much the last year or year and half. But I think the last time they renewed the license was year or two before Disney got Star Wars and it was thru 2018.
Last October or November sometime around there, I read over at rebel scum that Disney hasn't been too impressed with Hasbro's sales. It probably had more to do with the Phantom Menace anniversary line peg warming than anything else. But yeah the sales haven't been that great and Disney is not happy. They also put a bunch of restrictions on what Hasbro and can and can not make for star wars. They were saying Hasbro had to cancel a bunch of stuff because of it. Supposely that is why there is so little Hasbro star wars stuff in stores now. They've had to play catch up and get new Disney approved products made. The one bit of good news is that at SDCC Hasbro is rumored to be showing off a large amount of new star wars stuff, even a new large 3 3/4'' scale vehicle. Hasbro and Disney Expand Strategic Merchandising Relationship for Major Entertainment Properties (NASDAQ:HAS) Tales of Disney being "disappointed with Hasbro's sales" are contradictory with "Disney putting restrictions on what Hasbro can sell." The more realistic, less wishful-thinking (for some) scenario is that Hasbro and Disney recognized there would be a lull between Clone Wars and Rebels (a lull the line was already sliding into when Disney bought Lucasfilm) and like everything else in the Star Wars licensing world, Disney's "toned it down" in anticipation of new product. We'll get a "soft reboot" for Rebels-themed product later this year, and of course late next year we'll get a flood for Episode VII. Disney isn't stupid. They know if they restrict what Hasbro makes that Hasbro is likely to have less sales. Also? The Phantom Menace stuff came out before the Disney buyout. The main thing Disney has done is ax EU characters from the line almost entirely. If Hasbro doesn't evolve into a multimedia company then it's guaranteed to eventually fail. Or at least its' action figure department sure as hell will. |
