I was wondering what everybody goes by as far as what you use as your original and definitive GI Joe look?
I personally have always thought what ever the original figure looked like was the definitive look of that character. I have read others that use the card art and even some that use the cartoon and comics. What do you go by? Well, I tried to have a poll but I don't know what happened. (1) Original V1 Figure (2) Original V1 Card Art (3) Sunbow Cartoon (4) Comic Book (5) Other - Explain. Last edited by Gatchaman; 07-07-2014 at 04:04 PM.. |

(2) Original V1 Card Art
I go by the card art. The cartoons, card art, and GI Joe Marvel comics were close in my eyes. But I definitely went by the card art. I do wonder if most of the Joes and Cobras that had exposed faces were based on real people. I mean I know The Fridge, Slaughter, etc were. But what about Flint, Duke, Scarlet, Major Bludd? Were their faces just something an artist came up with? Or are they the faces of maybe the Hasbro team of the 80's and maybe their friends and/or family members? |

Most, if not always the file card. Sunbow well did an ok job replicating them.

V1 figure with exception of SE - The V2 was my favorite.

I just think it's funny that so many people have different opinions on what is the definitive original look. I just would have thought everyone would say the original figures but that's just not the case.

I agree with this, but add v2 Hawk also. I'm indifferent between v1and v2 commander (helmet or hood) bit I probably go hood more as CC tends to avoid the battles.

I go by heavily photocopied memos from Hasbro staff related to My Little Pony and Mr Potato Head by searching key words of "Joe."
