Any poll system is open to flaws.
If we reset every time, and ever person votes for a different character, who wins? What if there are two (or more) who tie with the most votes, but only one winner from the real poll? Who gets added. Going off who got it "first" isn't really fair. I know that was done the one time we had a tie in this format, but one-off is one thing. Having to do that every round isn't a fair representation either. And that's even more easily sabotaged. One person who wants to rig it for Supertrooper for instance PMs ten friends on the tank, they all post, they win. This way, its a lot harder to coordinate things, and its only happened with two characters - Interrorgator and Skidmark. Both of whom should rightfully be in the top 100, even though they were added early. And one person campaigning for a figure isn't that bad either. I was responsible for at least 80% of the votes for lifeline (I think all but three actually) and he won his first poll by a landslide. Just because there aren't multiple people nominating a specific character doesn't mean that they automatically will do poorly in the main poll. The current nomination system isn't perfect. But no system is. At least not that can be run on the forums like this. And, while I agree that Interrogator was a fluke, I really do think there is a legitimate argument to be made for Skidmark getting in when he did (even though I didn't vote for him to be added). |

Lifeline, I think it's doubtful every person would vote for a different character. But if it happened, you could go back to the previous round of nominations to break the tie. Same issue whether you need to add 1, 2 or 3 characters that round.
I also would let everyone nominate 3 characters per poll, because narrowing down to one favorite is a bit much to ask. So that would help make sure a tie didn't happen. Rigging it the way you say can happen in this nomination system just as much as any, as well as in any poll. If you can PM 10 friends or create 10 fake accounts, you can rig any system we can come up with. It sure isn't hard to do in this system, when characters got in with only 20 nominations. And you only need to find 4 friends to nominate him 5 times to get up to that. So that doesn't count as a disadvantage to my suggestion. |

How do we even know H&R's personality beyond his file card? What are people using as reference material at this point?

When you were a kid, did you really need more than the figure and file card to get excited about the character? Did you need more than that to decide which was your favorite of that year's releases to play with?
Only Snake-Eyes, Cobra Commander, Zartan and Flint have had a higher vote percentage than Hit & Run. That's less a sign of his popularity though than it is that so many weak characters have filled the rest of the poll slots. And since many of them are destined to sit there for a while, the winning vote percentages will probably continue to be lopsidedly high for a long time. |
