Hey, if the special forces can use crossbows, why not Scarlett?
Crossbow within the special forces Sentry killing, almost silent and unfamiliar sound. Can be used even after being submerged in water unlike a gun and strapped to your body so you can carry a normal gun too. Useful at night at least and when you're unseen and reload time doesn't matter if they don't know you're there. *edit The Crossbows are still in use. Guns can't be used in water(gunpowder doesn't burn when wet) so bringing a crossbow as a silent supplement to spear guns and etc during the initial wet landing is useful or when repeated travel through water is required. Muzzle flashes at night can be a bad idea too, so bringing a non-gunpowder based weapon at night can be life saving, no muzzle flash, no light attracting unwanted attention. And before you say anything a crossbow can do a sniper rifle can do, remember that sniper rifles aren't just heavy, they always tend to have poor handling because they're longer and make lots of sound and have massive muzzle flashes. They're no fit for medium to short range engagements. Last edited by Snakeeyesisposh; 05-19-2014 at 02:43 PM.. |

longbows are better than crossbows. you can fire faster.
Agincourt, French crossbows VS English longbows, English archers won. hence why we stick the Vs up at people, French threatened to chop off the archers' fingers used to nock the arrow. |

Better to just notch an arrow and shoot the arrow like a gun than waste time training special forces to do it like Rambo. |

I guess I still like the idea of Scarlett being such a badass that she still uses a crossbow in certain situations, regardless if she's still a ninja or not. |

Scarlett without a crossbow is like Snake Eyes without a sword or Roadblock without a .50 cal. It's a plausible and not unrealistic development but it means losing a lot what made the characters unique.
There's no reason it should be her only weapon, but there are plenty of examples of modern military forces using crossbows. The first thing that has to change with Scarlet is her outfit. The orange and purple leotard/leggings thing may have looked cool in the early '80s but it's really an outfit for a superhero. Weapons aside, I do like IDW's take on Scarlett in the Special Mission series - very type A and no nonsense - not super friendly, but probably a good representation of many of the women who end up excelling in the military. |

That's like saying the arquebus was soley responsible for the destruction of the Takeda clan as a power in feudal Japan. Quote:
We're presumably discussing a highly trained combat veteran so it's sort of implied that she is highly trained on multiple as well as specialized weapons systems.

despite all of the nonesense of whether a crossbow works in modern times or how loud a suprressed pistol is or Frenchies losing to Brits, it's all blah blah blah, the real question is do YOU see her with a crossbow? I mean it's GI Joe real life is knida on the outside
