But As far as nameless characters go i can see how they get personified as individuals. I only ever had one BAT when I still played with the figures. 1985 was an awesome year for Cobra Figures. I had one of each and they sort of took on characters of their own. The were all bad asses in my mind. My one Snow Serpent took a lot to take down. He was way cooler than my Breaker figure.
I attached a frame from my comic for example. As for the "Army" thing, you could army-build Serpentors, and in the continuities, there have been more than one Serpentor, but we still just voted for "Serpentor." I would distinguish Wade Collins, Fred I, Fred VII, and Prof. Appel as separate characters from "Crimson Guard" just as I would Overlord and the Crimson Twins. Similarly, who is this Ripcord in the poll? He has been so divergently represented that the only overlap between ripcords seem to be the name.

Gotta say, Indy, Inspector, Jedi, Loose Cannon, and several others, you guys have made these poll fun for me because with all of the on-going debating and different POV's you guys have all kept it civil and classy. If you were to put all of these threads together, we would be over 200 pages I'd bet, and I haven't seen a single personal attack yet. And even the few times someone has tried to be an antagonistic troll, no one has taken the bait. Just wanted to say thanks to all you guys (and/or gals),

Technically Rip Cord's appearance may have changed but the same can be said for a lot of characters, especially the movie versions. Of course CC's appearance is radically different even in the cartoon vs. the comic in the '80s, since he's a different race/species in the cartoon, from Cobra-La. But since the female Dial-Tone has a different real name, and some parts of the mythos say she's the sister of the original Dial-Tone, she should be separated out as a different character. More confusingly, YoJoe.com created separate listings for Strato-Viper and the remake of Strato-Viper from the Defense of Cobra Island set. That one was named Air Viper and they list it as version 2 of the Air Viper that was released at the 2003 convention. Last edited by JediJones; 05-17-2014 at 02:11 PM.. |

I would say, (and maybe it doesn't matter since my troop builder opinions have not been popular), that Ripcord equals all characters, same as Dial-Tone. Lifeline includes Edwin Steen and Greg Scott, but is distinguished from the Greg Scott who is RoboJoe. A good example of a character I would not include would be that guy in Issue #1 who looks like Mindbender/Wingfield, but nobody knows who he is. However I would include Bombadier, but probably would have objected to "Mystery Joe" unless there was near unanimity that there was only one specific "Mystery Joe."

The idea of putting a robot like B.A.T. in the poll begs the question of whether we can add the P.A.C. R.A.T.s. They're programmed attack machines just like B.A.T., they just aren't in humanoid form. And can we nominate them all together or does it have to be as separate flamethrower, missile launcher and machine gun? Last edited by JediJones; 05-17-2014 at 02:34 PM.. |

well, there you go. the HK Humanoids (i belive that's how some game or other classed them, the 'skinless' Terminators) are generic robot death machines. The two T800s and the T850 are individuals like Scarface, Fred VII, Wade or Professor Appel or the SAW-Viper in the Benzheen War who was made individual by his behaviour and his killing all those Joes.
