ballistic reactive armour, google-glasses style visors, wireless communications headsets, mini-UAVs, tablets or smart phones.

+1 for all of the above.
Other than personal ballistic reactive armour, all of the others are either available (in one form or another) or have been in development for a reasonably long while. This may well have been the case for the earlier Joes (e.g. jet packs and lasers, etc.) and without the internet we just didn't know so much about it, but I wonder what the slightly-futuristic/slightly over the horizon tech will bring (and that therefore the Joes would have now). I was interested to see the comments about the Marauders' shin guards, which I also don't like, but then watching the trailer for the latest CoD I see the same thing which makes me wonder whether whether these are on the horizon (presuming these people do their research). The same goes for the RoC body armour (e.g. RoC Shipwreck) which never appealed as looking too futuristic, but again I wonder if this is something that's in development. I realise that the above aren't tech per-se, but basic kit and uniform are another aspect of future tech. I should probably take my musings to another thread, or look to see if there's one already! I might stretch it mostly to make space a viable battlefield, but everyting else it's tanks, fighters, guns. lasers are as weapons, horribly inneffecient and lack the power to blow things with an instantaneous shot.
space battles are basically limited to near earth stuff. The Moon is about as far as it gets..
