As a kid I just thought Cross Country was a guy with a Southern accent. I knew little about his pro-confederate army and flag uniform preference. His new figure looks awesome and yet I'm left thinking how did General Hawk approve his uniform?
There does seem to be a anything goes uniform policy but Cross Country's uniform choice seems like it would have been a touchy subject. The year is 1986. Alpine, Doc, Iceberg, Roadblock and Stalker are at HQ when Cross Country walks in for the first time. All of these Joes would have known about the civil rights movement. All of these Joe would have experienced different disagrees of racism. All of these Joes would have family stories about the South. I can't picture this being anything but awkward first meeting to say the least. |

It's only a problem if they make it a problem.

A kepi and a belt buckle depicting the Confederate naval ensign were at the top of the "WTF are you wearing?" list?
I agree with Grizzly. Don't start none, won't be none. |

It's an army ensemble, they have to be profesionals, even if they don't like each other.
But it's a good story point. |

I used to hang out with a guy who was big on the confederate flag, and I asked him about it and he told me its about heritage not hate.
My guess is that's cc's deal as well. |

People weren't as sensitive back then. Plus as professional military elites I'm sure they judged each other on the merits of their actions and not their hat and belt buckle.

Well, we never saw anything actually racist from cross country himself. Perhaps it wasn't specifically the ideals of the south he was remembering, but a Grandfather or another relative who died in the war and never got to live to the old age he deserved?
An interesting point though. |

This was the 80s. The same time as Dukes of Hazard. Figured they used it with Cross Country to symbolize that he is just another "good ol' boy" from the south. It was only much later that I began hearing people refer to it as a symbol for racism.
I was only a child in the 80s, so maybe I was just ignorant to it all.

Fictional characters from a 32 year old toy property rarely seem to care about such things.
