If you think this is bad, wait for the 3 new StarWars movies coming out! One is slated for next year and then every two years after that. Don't get me wrong I like StarWars, and Transformers, both played a BIG part when I was growing up through the 80's but nothing had my attention more than GI Joe! and the fact there is ALOT of military in our family too!

There are so many other ways to enjoy this hobby other than hunting for new toys.
- mess around the figures you have - build dios or dislays for them - pick up some new comics or re-read the old ones - rewatch Resolute or Sunbow or DiC or RoC or Retaliation - customize your figures. This can be as simple as doing head swaps. - read the novels - restore an old vehicle. People would be surprised at how much better an old vehicle or playset can be after a thorough washing and some new stickers. I'm probably forgetting a bunch of ways, but the point is, maybe it's time to appreciate what we have rather than lamenting what we don't. If the only to enjoy Joes is to chase the newest toys in stores, than it's no longer a hobby, it's just buying and accumulating pieces of plastic. Just my general musings, not aimed at anyone in particular. OB I've often noticed it really does seem to be about getting new stuff just to have new stuff for many collectors. It's tied into the want-what-ya-ain't-got mentality I mentioned earlier. It's a dangerous mindset and trap to get caught in because it becomes a vicious circle of hunting, acquiring, adding it to what you already have and then moving on to the next hunt. Every time one acquires something, and literally has it in hand, the formerly new thing suddenly becomes old. I've read countless times on toy forums about collectors forgetting they had something, and/or having boxes full of toys in storage. If all you're doing is buying stuff only to forget about it or store it away, what's the point? Where's the fun? In the acquisition, I suppose, but then you also often hear of these types of collectors getting burnt out and having to purge their collections. |

I don't know if this was mentioned already, I haven't read all of the replies, some of you guys are really long winded, lol, but Hasbro isn't alone in the TF game. Takara Tomy has a really big partnership with them and TF is huge the world over, where as GI Joe isn't and never really was. TF G1 went on for another 5 years or so in Japan after it ended over here. All of the TF Masterpiece stuff comes out of Japan along with a lot of the other designs. There aren't a lot of people outside of North America who want to play with Real American Heros, but transforming alien robots are universal.

I agree completely. This is a good time to take a step back, take stock of what you already have and enjoy it. Afterall, isn't enjoyment the reason we got into this in the first place?

In the acquisition, I suppose, but then you also often hear of these types of collectors getting burnt out and having to purge their collections. Then a lot of things I was wanting became con exclusive and subscription based and carried a hefty price tag with it. Yes, there are ways I was constantly reminded to buy, sell and deal to get it but again, I thought I might as well invest that time into vintage stuff. It was becoming not fun for me anymore and I realized that a vintage collection was basically what I always wanted. I actually have a huge vintage collection from over the years, some dating back to my originals I owned as a child. Like all the other toys I own, they were stored in boxes because someday... and piled on top by other boxes of someday... and someday.. yadda yadda. I realized I have a large amount of boxes of stuff that mean nothing to me other than someday I was going to do something with it and the whole thing suddenly made no sense to me. So, I took a look at what is it I really want to do. Why do I do this. It came back that I got into this all to have a cool vintage collection on display. I now focus my time and effort (and money) on filling the holes in that vintage collection (at least the ones I want anyways, I'm no longer a completist). That collection has been slowly coming out of that SAFE storage in the bottom of a closet and being put on display. I am unloading much of the clutter that really doesn't mean anything to me and am enjoying collecting far more than I have in years. I have a goal. I have results. I have a collection I can admire and appreciate more than I have in forever. I guess the point of this all is I'm one of those people who don't really "support the line" anymore. Yes, I still get some new things here and there for a specific dio I have in mind, but I'm not really putting any money into new stuff. And I am loving GI Joe as I have not in years. So am I a "true" fan or collector? I don't know and don't care anymore. I'm enjoying it. My revelation may not be for everyone but it felt topical here. That and I haven't really had a long winded post in awhile ;)
