Even if you don't read the comics, don't know the cartoons, he still has one of the, if not the best action figure. '82/83, '85, '91? and a f#:@ing Ultimate version in PoC, years before the Retaliation "Ultimates ". :-D
He only sucked in RoC. |

Ha ha! I forgot about he let wolf and the hot girlfriend! Of course he had the let wolf in the cartoons but not the hot girlfriend.
I've said it before, but I use he comics as my Joeverse, and I agree that Larry did a great job with the SE story. I didn't realize he didn't like duke, but I also like stalker better than duke.

I think it would be interesting to find out Larry's reactions to everything that Hasbro or sunbow told him he had to do. I never heard him not wanting duke in the comics. Interesting.

I think I read somewhere once that he was all black to save on paint apps and everything about him was classified because Larry developed him last and was running out of ideas at the time.
It is interesting that the "what do we do with this guy?" guy became the favorite of the line.

I didn't get to read the comics as a kid and i had the figures before the toon, but there were tons of ninja movies around that time and V1 was a commando still looked-ish like ninja did in movies. That made him instantly cool then V2 with timber and the sword instant rockstar status at my house. I will say though as a kid SS always took SE because SS was and is my favorite.

You have to realize that the team were all clad in similar green uniforms. Then, there's a mysterious character clad all in black. Visually, it makes him stand out, and we're all wondering why he stands out, it must mean he's cool, he's different, which pushes us to find out why. Also, the origin was stretched out for several years, in bits and pieces, aside from the major reveal in 26 and 27. His face was never shown until #93, which strun g us along. We kept wanting to see the disfigured face, making us coming abck for more. It's that mysteriousness, the intrigue, the wonder that drives his popularity. Plus, I'll never forget when he took out the squad of v2 night creepers in issue 136(?). That was bad@$$!

Snake Eyes was the thread that tied the comic verse together. Stalker, Storm Shadow, Cobra Commander, Baroness... all were directly affected by his actions/presence. Their stories unfolded together. A cynic would see an "amazing" string of coincidences, but really, what is a good story but a string of coincidences?
As for why he was chosen, IMO it's due to the blank slate nature of his introduction, and presentation. He was developed organically instead of invented. Hama had room to run with it and did a full marathon. No matter how sick I am of seeing SE figures over and over again, they'll never ruin the character for me. |

Like a Model T, eh? Comes in any color, as long as you like black...? ;)

i prefer the AF version of that figure. the grey added to the mask, grenade and the demo pack on his leg make it pop more than the plain black.
