I liked some of the cobra-la concept. Like many Joe fans, I hated that Cobra Commander angle. If they would have taken more of a a "Operation High jump" angle from UFO lore, it would have been neat. In a nutshell it could have went something like this, Cobra is losing its battle with the JOES and retreats to Antarctica where they encounter a alien race (Cobra-La). This alien race is responsible for covertly giving Cobra alien technology (like the weather dominator or the mass device) with the hope that Cobra would conquer the world. If Cobra succeeded and did take over the world, this mysterious alien race intentions would be to undermine them.
There are some people that believe that after World War II the Nazi's retreated to secret bases in the arctic that were under the control of a alien race. US forces encountered this alien race in what was known as "Operation High Jump." You can google it if you want. While it might not be all that believable, it is interesting. What's with all these threads lately?
The movie was epic, as epic, if not more than, as Transformers, and Cobra-La ruled. Necessary. |

I agree cobra la was not necessary back in the day i saw gi joe the movie in the theater when it came out with my best friend and when we saw cobra la we were both like WTF and dealt with it and continued on with the movie . i liked the premise of it but the execution was meh ,growing up with a father that took me to every kind of sci fi movie that was out old and new at he time made me appreciate it but thats about it i loved pythona even nemesis enforcer but to use those characters and plot in a movie and then never speak of them again was kinda stupid in my opinion thats the 80's for you so read in to it what you will ...

I'm not going to say you are wrong, but I didn't know any of these fickle kids. My friends and I were still full steam ahead GI Joe. Cobra La was where we started to say this is getting stupid.

We already had this debate:http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...l-edition.html
No, it wasn't necessary. It was bullcrap and what turned me away from GI Joe. I remember after the movie, most of my friends and I just left Joe. We were huge fans, we kept binders full of filecards, quizzed each other, we were the biggest joe geeks at our school. And what the hell was the use of python? She was just the bad guys chick standing there. Doing Nothing. The character sucked, best she did was get her ass handed to her by Jinx. |

I first saw the Joe movie when I was 7 I believe? I CRIED when CC got turned into a snake. As a result I HATED Cobra-La. As the years went on I grew to appreciate Golobulus and friends as well as the movie. Burgess really tore it up as Glob! I do think it's a shame that Sunbow Joe ended there though. Cobra-La wasn't necessary and a little too comic booky for GI Joe but they shouldn't be reviled as bad characters. And who doesn't want a modern era Golobulus???

It happened. It was good for anyone who really loves gi joe. Anything that Hasbro puts out gi joe, good or bad is a blessing for fans. The fact that it hit the light of day is good for all fans. Right now we have nothing new in the market or on tv. Right now I would be just glad to see a 12 minute gijoe cartoon on Cartoon Network.
