How about the James Bond movies? Escapism? Too realistic?

I'd go with the tone of the Sean Connery ones.

I've been thinking, it's said Sunbow is too silly but honestly I kind of like the fun of it...Cold Slither or Cobra's telethon, just fun nonsensical escapism where I can tune out the stress in life I might be going through or forget current politics

Larry Hama's comic was really pretty much perfect up until Serpentor and all the brainwave scanner stuff. Best blend of realistic military lingo and gear, with some laser weapons and ninja stuff.

Serpentor in general was a lame idea. Wasn't he thought-up by the Hasbro executives?

If ... IF ... they had done it as more of a Special Missions "horror story" spin-off in the fall of the year, it could've been fun. With all the epic storytelling that came before, Ripcord ejecting over Cobra Island, Ripcord v. Zartan, the Joes invading Cobra Island, Baroness shooting Storm Shadow dead, Zartan v. Sgt Slaughter in the Pit, even Ripcord posing as Zartan, that was all far more interesting to me. Serpentor was an even bigger dipshit in the cartoon. I like the brainwave scanner, but I'd have plugged other characters into it and let Stalker provide all the necessary back story that Snake-Eyes ever required because that was Grade-A Hama storytelling. |
