I'm guessing whatever is on it's way to TRU (Kreo or 4") is all that is in the pipeline at the moment.
Action figures produced by Hasbro and Mattel are a dying breed fellas. |

but that isn't some minor issue, that there is no product to design right now. why isn't there new product to design? because Hasbro has no interest in doing so, either to create a collector line to distribute through collector channels, or completely reinvent the brand with a concept that could excite children and retailers alike.
they have abandoned it. Toys generally take 18 months to go from concept to shelf. Sometimes they can squeeze that down a bit if it's mostly straight repaints and repacks, but generally 18 months is the bare minimum. There literally isn't time to do the things you're talking about. Hasbro generally doesn't do "collector channels" and quite frankly the 50th Anniversary showing they've already made is pretty much EXACTLY "collector channels" (retailer exclusive). Asking them to start a whole new business model for G.I. Joe while they're just a few months away from having to start work on G.I. Joe 3 product (if the current timeline holds) is unrealistic. Likewise "reinventing the brand" in that same timeframe is completely unrealistic, because any relaunch/reboot they did would then immediately get tossed out the window for G.I. Joe 3 movie product. If Hasbro announces nothing's coming for G.I. Joe 3, then you can keep jamming the panic button. What we're seeing now is the very definition of "hiatus" and even in the midst of that they're STILL putting out product. So no, the brand isn't "abandoned" no matter how much so many people around here seem to desperately want it to be. But for Pete's sake if you take nothing else from this, just remember that toys don't get developed and distributed overnight. Last edited by Jmacq1; 03-10-2014 at 01:24 PM.. |

I find it almost funny that on a primarily Joe collector site that so many are hoping for the line to die.
Are these people waiting for it to die so they can raise the prices (even more so then they are) on their Ebay accounts?

Joe back in the market 18 months form now, wouldn't they need a brand team to work on it? no brand team = no product for whatever the time frame it would take to make it = brand abandoned for that time frame. |

I think Jmacq1 has the right of it. Don't forget that Hasbro dropped everything to produce the Rise of Cobra line, then dropped Renegades and whatever came after the 30th line to make way for Retaliation. At this point it's better to let the movie develop and take what designs and character direction their given rather than create an entire new line only to have to abandon it all again come 2015.

The underlying point being (as you point out) Hasbro's waiting on G.I. Joe 3 before they re-assemble a "G.I. Joe team" to move forward, rather than attempting an unfounded and unjustified massive relaunch of the brand that will have to be abandoned almost as soon as it hits shelves to make way for G.I. Joe 3 product. Heck, if G.I. Joe 3 -does- come out in March of 2015 I actually find myself doubtful Hasbro will have time to make toys for it. Though I personally also doubt G.I. Joe 3 will be out by March of next year...I think it'll get pushed to fall or late summer. Last edited by Jmacq1; 03-10-2014 at 01:54 PM.. |

which was, again, my point that was disputed. Hasbro has abandoned any plan to actually develop the brand, which includes new concepts that maybe have nothing to do with what it has been since reemerging at retail in the early 2000's. |

you have ignored what I stated -- what Hasbro is doing now, or more accurately, not doing now. started something 12 months ago, and finishing now, doesn't negate that they aren't doing anything now with an expected market time 18 months later. |
