I've been a long time Joe fan. Since the original series, I can remember getting Short-fuze as a kid... Years later I'm an actual medic in the US Army. (been out a while though)
Guess my question is, how many active/inactive people are here on hisstank, collecting? I've seen a lot of cool stuff while in, and thought I may be in the minority of collecting Joes... Anyone else?

I wanted to enlist, however my knees kept me out. Even had my dad pull strings with a General he served in Nam with and no go.
My Father was Special Forces and CIA Black Ops in Vietnam My Grandfather was a Machine Gunner at the Battle of the Bulge in WWII (Lied about his age at 16) My Great Grandfather was in WWI Hell we are descended from Ethan Allen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethan_Allen I have nothing but love and respect for anyone that has ever put on the uniform.

U.S. Army Infantry since 2004. Three deployments made collecting tricky, but even IEDs, RPGs, and RKG3's can't stop my unhealthy obsession with 3 3/4th action figures. (And an honorable mention to the Transformers!)

I tried to enlist in the Army, Marines and Airforce to no avail. I have bad eyes and a bad shoulder. To be honest, I was dissapointed... I had always wanted to be a pilot and figured to enlist to get my start before an eventual move to commercial aviatian... No go. The infantry would have had to get work done on my shoulder to ensure I Was tip top...so I did some college and joined the workforce.
Not that I was looking forward to any battle, but the experince I could have gained. Nothing but respect for those who serve.

Hah back when I was 17 I went to do the DEP (Delayed Entry Program), recruiter took me to MEPS, did that whole rigmarole.. and at the end they offered me two jobs. 71D.. and... wait for it, 57E.
Look them up if you want to know why I said no thanks. Apparently they said I was black/white colorblind. Even though I am pretty sure I can see color. Anyway, that was 1997, and I've moved on, but still a little hurt I guess!

I wanted to join but my dad talked me out of it. He was career Navy (served 20 years). That decision haunts me till this day; my one true regret

I have serverd four years in the airforce. basic training is where i was re-introduced to GI Joe. My drill instructor was a Joe fan. I did two deployments where i drove convoys. I saw combat one time and that was enough to last a life time. I thank god everyday for kevlar and the marines that were at my side. 377 LRS baby!

Gung Ho's dress uniform did it for me, I joned the marines before I finished High School. I am out now and have a great career, no regrets on the decision to do the military.
I joined in 97.
