Sure, there are plenty of factors - the management of the brand, marketing and distribution of the brand, etc...but it all boils down to what kids want to play with. Sadly, the Adult collector segment for our brand isn't large enough to support it without kids. |

Yeah, it obviously still has legs to stand on. But they seem to be weak legs at the moment. We do need some sort of media tie-in! I'd dig a Kreo Joe toon.

Yeah man, you aren't kidding. All obvious (and hysterical) jokes aside, look at how adult collectors have galloped (HA!) towards MLP. The 25th managed to bring quite a few people back to the G.I.Joe brand and also brought new fans along with it...but sadly, many of the older 12" collectors and subsequent 80s-90s ARAH purists stepped back from the collecting aspect of the hobby. Co-signed. If we could get any sort of media tie-in that would play on Cartoon Network or something similar...something to actually get kids excited for the brand, then we as Adult Collectors will have the support we need. There's no doubt that our wallets are what support the G.I.Joe line. When I say our, I mean the Adult Collecting Community. |

I think the biggest problem with the relaunch during the 25th were design problems (that could have been avoided mostly) like figures not being able to hold their own weapons, 1 peg stands and not being able to stand properly, and things like diaper crotches or figures that didn't fit in vehicles properly.
arah had NONE of those problems. for a new generation of children to be exposed to joes with all those problems that make them hard to play with it sunk the line with the kiddos before it got off the ground. and the newest waves and RET with figures that cant even stand on the stands you give them shows HASBRO hasn't really learned their lesson.

A prime example of a "revised" brand would be teenage mutant ninja turtles. Kids are nuts about them all over again.
A great cartoon launched with a great set of figures and mobile gaming/app presence seems to be a winning combination. All great marketing starts with a plan. Hopefully these things will happen with G.I Joe 3. |

arah had NONE of those problems. Well, not necessarily so. We had straight arm Joes and the following year we were introduced to "Swivel Arm Battle Grip." I would say the same instance was found with the earlier 25th product (with your reference to Diaper crotches being a spot on example). As for the QC issues, that I couldn't agree with more...but I will give this to Modern Era stuff...although they had some difficulty holding weapons, Most ARAH could not hold a shotgun properly or "double handle" a weapon. I think WRW's post pointed directly to the Elephant in the room - Kids have a different/new skill set. When most of us were small, you would go outside, grab a stick and that stick would become whatever you wanted it to be. Now, a Kid doesn't have that same need; they can plug in to Minecraft and easily build something there. Now, get a kid to download an app that allows them to interact with a gaming system that also encourages outdoor play, then you have a winning combo. Market it properly and ensure that distribution channels are on the same page and it's TMNT. |
