I see so many people trash Cobra La. I'll agree that some of the cartoon was rediculas, the idea in itself wasn't that bad. If it were reimagined or tweeked, it could actually be pretty cool. It marked the beginning of the end of Joe as we knew it back then, followed by much worse ideas like the DEF and the Toxic Haz Mat figures. And even blending Street Fighter characters into the Joe verse. And figures with flamboyant colored weapons. It clearly ran the figure line into the ground. But fast forward a few years. GI Joe vs Cobra. The toys were cheap, and the story line was lacking, but we had a start to resurect our beloved GI Joe and Cobra epic struggle. Then wave two, and somebodys horrific idea to create Valor vs Venom. Venomous maximus not only desicrated general hawk, but the entire storyline was like a bad scif. Science fiction movie. The Toys didn't sell very well, and the characters were atrocious. Yet I don't hear a lot of bashing the Valor vs Venom line . I don't know if it was so bad people don't even mention it, or if the majority actually liked it. So which was a worse idea? Imo, they were both killers of gi Joe in both toys and in continuity. However, I'd take Cobra La any day over Venomous Maximus, and the biggest insult to one of my favorite characters, the infamous Croc Master 2.....

I think since VvsV didnt have much of a presence beyond the cgi movie, its easily ignored. I know I like Cobra La a lot more than Venomous Maximus and the V Troops...

I actually liked the Venom vs Valor storyline. Venomous Maximus was a cool figure in my opinion. I also like the Cobra part human, part animal figures like the Swamp Rats and the Sand Scorpions. Cobra La on the other hand just sucked. No other word for it.

Cobra La could've been handled better. Valor vs Venom utilizing the idea of hybridizing Cobra troops and reptiles/rodents, etc. I didn't like the 'Cobra Lalalalala...', or Venomous Maximus being Hawk, or the scientific genius hero being a veterinarian. But, both ideas could be meshed together.

There were a few neat ideas, and some people may like the entire line and they are entitled to their opinion... But for the most part it was forgettable and even people like me who have been collecting since long before it may respond with "What? That existed.. oh yeah I remember that" when shown figures from that time. ---------------------- Oh and for the record I kind of like Cobra La as an unrelated cool sci-fi fantasy thing unrelated to gi joe.

What Cobra La has doing for it are the great performances by Burgess Meredith, Peter Cullen, and Jennifer Darling. No one was impressed by whoever voiced Venomous Maximus, or impressed by much of anything in the VvsV movie... although I DID like the portrayal of Slice & Slash. They were over the top.
As I'm always fond of saying regarding Cobra La and the 1987 movie: it was a horrible idea executed beautifully (IMO). VvsV was (IMO) a meh idea executed meh-ly.

They wanted to bring Joe into this Reptillian Inner/Hollow Earth theory. SMDH

V vs V was terrible but much appreciated for its involvement in revitalizing the line. And here it goes, l'll say it... I LOVED Cobra La and I LOVED the movie. IMHO DIC was the death of g.i. Joe. That's all I'm saying. Yeah I'm That Guy.
