Hi, guys. I've been away from the hobby for a few years but I've been buying again and roaming this site for the last few months. Love it here. Just wondering if anyone has any tips to remove the smell of cigarette smoke from a MASS device I just bought on eBay? The crystal is also very discolored. Any ideas how to clean it? Thanks in advance.

Yuck. I bought a Night Raven drone off a guy from Facebook and it was VERY apparent he smoked. I usually recycle packing material, but I had to toss everything out because it smelled so bad. I just let my stuff air out since I plan on scrubbing it with Goo Gone when I finish the Night Raven restoration. Goo Gone will take off the decals.
Since the Mass set didn't have stickers, you're best bet it to hand wash in dishwater soap, scrubbing gently. I do not know how to brighten up the crystal, sorry, but I would just try the soap as well.

There are a lot of different ideas out there. I've had good luck in the past placing the item in a sealed plastic bin along with an unused fabric softener dryer sheet. Leave that way for a few days, then let it sit out in a well ventilated area.

Awesome! Thanks for the great ideas. I wonder if I can immerse the crystal in peroxide? Would that hurt the plastic?

In my days as a smoker, I found that dryer sheets work well for absorbing the smoke odor.
I do suggest a light soaking and washing. Let dry and stuff in a bag with a dryer sheet. If that doesn't cut the smell, let it air out for a few days and repeat the process.

Soak the MASS device in the sink with hot water, dishwashing liquid, and a cup of bleach. I clean all my vehicles and playsets this way.

The bleach doesn't mess up the color of the plastic?

What I have found that works best is to just let it air out in a well ventilated area. Preferably outside under a covered area for 4 to 5 days

I have sat vintage and modern vehicles and playsets in nothing but bleach for up to two weeks(because I forgot about them)and it did nothing to the color. Just try a small piece if you're not sure about it. But it does work.
