When I was about 10 or 11 I was going through an old box of Joes my parents had moved out to my Dad's train room. I was trying to get most of my 84 or 85 Joes together and couldn't find some of the gear so I was just going through box after box of stuff and knocked over an old deep fryer. I didn't pay much attention to it. It was just a big pan. I find what I'm looking for and start putting the boxes back where they belong when I notice theres something all over the floor.
My mother for some reason had not emptied the deep dryer of oil so when I knocked it over like a full gallon or more of the oil spilled out. It ruined boxes, the flooring..soaked into the wood. It still smells like cooking oil to this day in that room lol. I must of spent a whole week that summer cleaning it up and cutting up the flooring. |

I can imagine it's simultaneously amusing and poignant to find your child's buried toys years or decades later.

My best friend of 30 yrs, who to this day won't admit it, actually stole my vintage Storm Shadow. He wanted to trade me for it, begged me, and I refused. Mine disappeared when he left. I figured he stole it, and so I called him and ask him if he still wanted to trade for it, like I still had it. Amazingly, he didn't need it, he got one from his cousin Charlie, who I have never met, don't think he even exists. Anyway, I ended up trading him out of it, guess he actually felt bad, gave him a couple comic books. When I got it back, the freekin bow and nunchucks were gone. I kept it for yrs, after we made up, was gonna bronze it and give it to him one day, lost it when I went through my divorce, prob was sold on e-bay or something from my ex. I only replaced it in my collection just 2 yrs ago. He and I never had a problem after that. I told him, I knew he took it, and we could still be friends, just never to do that again. In the end,30 yrs later, the friendship has been way more valuable than the figure, but I'd give 5 of them, if the goofball would finally admit it..

My family and I went to the beach some years ago, I brought a bunch of joes. Built some sand castles/ forts and caves for them to fight and battle in. Ended up Losing a Lady Jaye and The Space Roadblock (looked like a Houston Oilers uniform). I didnt tell my mom at the time because I thought she would be pissed. I really like that Roadblock, but I found a frog! He was cool for a couple days... then he died.

There was a large construction site just a block away from where I lived as a kid. They were building a flood wall and had several huge mounds of gravel. I thought it would be cool to take some Joes and dig a huge cave to use as a base. It took me hours to dig it out; but it was so big I could actually fit inside it!. I was setting up my Cobra forces on top of the "cave" to attack the Joes inside when the whole thing collapsed! It was getting dark and my Mom's rule was I had to be inside by sundown. It took forever but I scraped and dug out all my Joes and their accessories( Polar Battle Bear, Scarlett, Gung-Ho, Doc, Snow Job, Snake Eyes, Major Bludd and my Cobra Troopers ). I was getting very nervous because the last figure I found was Snake Eyes; and an all black figure in the dark is hard to see! But, I recovered everything. I got home late and got yelled at for coming in after dark, but I had all my Joes and I did not really care about the lecture.
