I see the same happening to the Walking Dead comics and toys too, just like the X-file comics and toys have fallen out.

I've gotta disagree here. Yes, ME stuff that goes up quickly (as all the completists compete to get one) will eventually come down as demand dwindles. That said, classic, timeless and iconic pieces like a carded 1982 Snake Eyes, 1982 Cobra, 1983 Cobra Commander, 1984 Firefly, 1984 Storm Shadow, 1985 Snake Eyes etc. all hold their value very well.
I just bought a house and had to sell my AFA 1982-1985 collection. It took 6 weeks to liquidate and I made roughly 15% profit on assets that I had collected over the previous 5 years. Many of them I had graded myself. So, the sky is not falling. Iconic, classic figures will hold their value. ME stuff that everyone is chasing at the same time will of course be artificially inflated due to simple supply + demand. Frugal ME collectors will want to wait the spike out. But let's be honest, how many of us are patient enough to wait for prices to level out? What would be the fun in that? Yo Joe!

No one pays for five year old figures except collectors. Because every year, toy companys release better and better stuff. The price just nose dives every time. Or they stay constant to what was paid when the person first got it, which means the owner lost money due to inflation.

In the short term, I am frequently stunned at what strikes me as sudden, arbitrary increases in a given toy's market value.
I nabbed Amazon Renegades Duke, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow in trades some months back, and I've recently traded the SS and SE, and looking online, all those Amazon Renegades figures are going for insane prices now. I usually dismiss such things, though; I traded my Renegades/30th Storm Shadow to a friend for a couple of random Rise of Cobra figures. He got a hell of a deal… but I didn't want the Storm Shadow anymore, and I wanted the RoC figures, so screw it... |

Unless you have toys made of gold there's no sure thing, I paid $20 bucks for some BBI HUMMERS, sold a few for $75.00, I see them for more on buy it now but they don't always sell, it's so random what stuff is worth, I just buy cuz it's fun to hunt an collect, love going to flea markets and toy shows with my kids, it's just like building a Hotrod or Harley , it's what you like, it's fun, it feels good, it's addictive, take a vacation, it's a loss, but it's fun, it's memories, just do what you like n forget about the dollar value.
