OK.. so looking at the custom card art just posted I noticed the Flag Point included on the back, which got me to thinking.
When I was a kid part of the joy of Joe collecting was the catalogs and the Flag Point brochures. Some times they would have things that you could only get with the Flag Points, transformers did the same thing. When the 25th line re launched part of the nostalgia I was hoping to relive was the catalogs and the flag points, but all we got were the blueprints and some kinda crappy posters. I think Hasbro could have brought in a new generation of kids if they had brought back the Flag Points and possibly the catalogs detailing what was coming next. I know the first time I bought a 25th era vehicle I was disappointed with what was on the inside as much as not being able to assemble it. What are your thoughts?

I agree! The Flag points on the backs of the single cards and vehicles was a huge plus back then. I remember that's how I got my Hooded CC. And it would have worked as a great promotional tool for the youngsters of today, as well. I dug the 'Rescue Doc' promotion from the comic packs but it just wasn't the same as back then, y'know?

Flag points kicked ass. I loved ordering special things.
And I loved the catalogs. I looked forward to opening a vehicle and seeing all the cool things I could look forward to that year.

Yeah, those catalogs were a huge boon, too... I miss the Sears Catalog's G.I. Joe section, as well.

I remember when I was a kid and would send the flag points off for stuff, it seemed like the wait for its arrival took eons. When it finally arrived it was very exciting to receive a toy in the mail as a kid. I don't think I would be quite as excited about it as an adult, but it would be cool to get some mail away exclusives.

Exactly, would be a great way for them to do some of the stuff we all want so bad but know they are not going to produce.

Wasn't the 25th Doc a flag point mail order? About all i really remember getting with flag points was Hooded Cobra Commander, Duke, and Sgt. Slaughter. But yeah would be nice if they still had em, course then that'd mean i'd pretty much hafta open some of my figures. All that i've bought carded are still carded.

Teh 'Netz has kinda ruined the flag point experience for me.
Or i should say, the availability it offers has done that. god, i remember having to physically go to a JCPenney with hoarded lunch money and order a G1 Blitzwing and Ultra Magnus, or the original VAMP from the store's catalog department in the back because stores here sucked. And when i got home from school and heard mom or dad say they got a call from 'Penney's...i went nuts with joy. so do i miss the Flag points and the feelings that came with it? Damn Skippy, kids. Do i want it back? sorry to tell the younger collectors, but, NO. i don't think i want to cut up my precious boxes or figure cards for something i can get off of EvilBay or a local dealer. i think the closest thing we have to this these days are SDCC exclusives or JoeCon offerings. they are special, unique and a hoot to wait for. and i am happy with that.

Flag Points rocked! I loved the Manta, and all of the other sets i got with them. They meant more, because you couldn't get them any other way. Sure, Ebay may dilute this a bit, but anyone that bought the toys could cut them off and mail them in for the goodies...
