anything Hasbro does with this will be unlikely to appeal to traditional figure collectors, which doesn't help THAT segment any. Keeping figures to "our standards" would, like Jmacq1 says, raise the price well in excess of $15, creating a huge reluctance from ALL consumers. Quote:
As far as Joe going into this direction - it would be nothing but positive. Let's face it - we need to re-invent the wheel here because our current situation isn't working with kids. Hasbro would have to team up with some top notch developers to make this work. Could you imagine Transformers and GI Joe in this enviroment? VERY COOL!!!!
I really don't think this slice of the market is robust enough to support multiple games of this type. As is, Skylanders dominates, and Disney has a good chance of carving a solid niche with their library of properties (all told, Disney has among the largest catalogs of marketable properties on the PLANET, especially with STar Wars and Marvel, which appeal VERY well to the Skylanders demographics). But Hasbro? Again, all they basically have are Transformers, My Little Pony, and GI Joe. While they do have a healthy catalog of concepts to pull from (Centurions, MASK, Stretch Armstrong, Micronauts, Zoids, Jem, Maxie, COPS, Clue, Littlest Pet Shop), NONE have any kind of mass market pull or recognition.

This is an idea I've been touring for awhile. Have a nice pose able action figure like we're used to, but have the figure stand come with a chip that syncs with some kind of game interface. It'd be epic.

I can tell you doing something new and different is better then doing nothing or doing the same old tired thing that's getting less and less money and attention as the ship sinks, especially at where it counts, retail. If they fail on this 3rd movie they loose out on the last big thing to sell their toys. Without other avenues to explore and at least try...they might as well just quit. With the current track record unless they come up with something new and innovative for us to buy and spend money(and continue to do so) and expand its customer base beyond the minuscule collector base that's left that can never agree on anything or they stand too loose the brand all together money wise. But I guess like people say we don't make a big enough difference to make them any money, so maybe doing nothing and putting joe back up in the closet on permanent hiatus is the better choice maybe....?
Like Captain Power....that toy line was before its time....interactive with the vehicles when the figures are placed in thier positions! Liek you got 2 gunners both guns are activated, and the figures can have skills that improve the battle chances depending on which ones you get

Tell me how either of those scenarios help the Joe brand? Especially now that there are already two high-profile "money pits" out there using the same model? Are (currently non Joe-fan) parents really going to jump on a third?

Angry Birds is currently using QR codes to unlock parts of their game, while a joe game would like need to be simplier i do think QR codes are on option, probably would need to make some kind of convertor with a special figure for consoles, as i don't think Wii U can read QR Codes and I'm sure they rest can't. The use of QR codes and only expensive convertor and the ability to reuse existing molds could mean they could do something cheaper, not necessarily as good in some ways, or better, but cheaper, and that could pull more folks in.
As for ties with Game developers, Hasbro owns Magic the Gathering, and you could recently download an old version of that game for free on Xbox live (if you have gold) so they do have some ties. A reskin of that game with Joe characters could be done easily, i've day dreamed about the idea a ton myself. red mountains = firepower blue islands = inteligence black swamps = desire green forests =natural resources white plains = valor some renames and art taken from existing Joe as well as additional new art and bam! a new game. QR codes could give you access to exclusive cards. Beyond just games though a basic digital presence would just promote awareness of the brand, xbox live avatars for example, could be done not to make money necessarily, but so that others could see their friends in the digital clothes. QR codes could help their too.

For Pete's sake, I'm not saying it isn't a "cool idea." I'm just saying that it isn't the cure-all for the Joe brand that some people seem to think it would be, especially given that Hasbro either would have to license out the video game portion to another company (meaning that Hasbro doesn't reap all/any of the profits from said video game and possibly less from the action figures themselves), or spend so many years developing their own internal video game division (at huge costs) that by the time the product makes it to market, the fad has already passed and they're long behind the power curve as kids have moved on to something else.
Tell me how either of those scenarios help the Joe brand? Especially now that there are already two high-profile "money pits" out there using the same model? Are (currently non Joe-fan) parents really going to jump on a third? I think if we had a good enough video game it could sell figures in the same vein as Halo.....but do i think this will ever happen?....no way in hell. I would like to see a 6" Joe line exactly like Marvel Legends....the Marvel Legends Joe customs on ebay are awesome. This will probably never happen unless that new Star Wars 6" line turns into a cash cow.

Hasbro used to have a video game division which produced several games actually....nothing AAA, but they do have experience in that world. They also just bought a mobile game company that makes Dragonvale, which is pretty good and successful. So who knows, maybe they are planning to get back into the video game industry.
And yet it only commands about as much or less shelf-space at retailers than G.I. Joe usually does, at least in the "action figure aisle(s)." If video game success translated into toy sales, Halo should be dominating aisles like Star Wars or Transformers or TMNT and then some. Ergo...video games don't necessarily equate into toy sales (largely because the bulk of gamers are already beyond action figure buying age). I guess I should correct myself though: It might "save the brand" purely in the sense of the brand itself, but it won't necessarily do much for the toys (which is what most of us here tend to be most concerned with). That doesn't mean that Hasbro shouldn't pursue the opportunity for a good video game if one presents itself (not terribly likely, but still), just that it's not likely to be the "game-winning touchdown pass" for the G.I. Joe brand that many folks seem to think it would be. As for a 6" Joe line...I think it's less about the Star Wars 6" line being a cash cow and more about the Joe brand itself being successful enough to warrant multiple lines. Lady Delta and the kids play the Disney Infinity game and has all the character pieces so far (she's working on the little disc's that come in the packs). Not a bad game for the family, but not my cup of tea so to speak.

Lots of good points both for and against. I can sum up my thoughts with: If the characters cost what the skylanders and infinity ones do then I would be out. No way I would pay the $13 that Inifinity figures cost. Probably $5 at best for a little statue thing. And I would love to see something where Duke and Snake Eyes were fighting/adventuring in the same world as Optimus Prime or Matt Tracker. Multiplayer would be a must, though, even if it were just local.
