The Story
After several weeks of basic training, you are finally ready to be shipped out to your respective base. To keep things efficient, several different military branches are using the airfield today, at the invitation of General Lee. You are waiting patiently with your respective branch to board the planes, as the control tower is having some issues dealing with a civilian recreational pilot in the area who is responding politely, but cannot seem to alter his course. Seeing as this could take a while, your commanding officers have allowed you to wander freely around the base, so long as you are back in half an hour and don’t cause any trouble for General Lee. A few planes have been sent up to assist the civilian pilot, so there won’t be any danger of a collision with the large amount of planes going up into the air. Airfield Map: Welcome to GI Joe the PbP RPG! If you are as nostalgic as I am about GI Joe, or just like modern military-style RPG’s, this is the place for you. I’m going to go more towards the tone of the cartoon, but if you would prefer the tone of the comics, just tell me in your post. This RPG is about a rag-tag bunch of average military recruits who get chosen to join GI Joe after defeating a member of Cobra on their own. The system is a fan-made one I found on the YoJoe forums, the link is in Technical Information. Canon-wise, nobody knows about GI Joe yet, and not much about Cobra. I haven’t decided about Storm Shadow yet. This takes place in 1984, the time the comics started, due to the weapons and vehicles available. However, I will be using the cartoon rules, meaning weapons deal STUN damage. I may change this later in the game once we get used to the rules system. Technical Information For dice, it uses d6's and d10's. You can see a dice generator here, and the honor system will be used for rolls. System: GI Joe the RPG (Unofficial system) We will be playing it through the forums. Once I get enough players, I will start the main IC thread. Player Count: 4-8 Style of Play: Not sure how it will turn out (First time using this system), so I’ll go with Sandbox. Allowed Content: Anything in those PDF’s is fine. See below for character type and experience. Character Creation: You can use the character sheet PDF if you’d like. What I need from you is the following:
I am not using the following for now:
Sample Character (PDF) Backstory: A brief paragraph is fine, I’m not judging based on this. Just say where you were before basic training, why you decided to join, and anything else important about your character. Experience: There’s not really a leveling system, so I’ll have you increase your tiers, char types, and fusion points as mission rewards. Start at “Boot” for character experience and at “Above Average” for character type. (If you really want to, you can be “Civilian.”) Wealth: Resource points, essentially. Ability Scores: Generate them as the PDF’s say. They aren’t random; they’re based on your choices. Hitpoints/Health: 10 times BDY is HITS, 10 times BDY is STUN. We are using the cartoon version of weapons for now, so unless otherwise noted all weapons deal STUN damage. Alignment: No restrictions, as long as you are loyal to GI Joe and the military. PM me for details about creating a special role if you want to be Cobra, but make a character like normal. Don’t tell anyone if I end up making you Cobra, and note that the Cobra member will be one in established continuity, although your character may be an original creation. On Posting and Turns: To keep combat running smoothly, I use an alternate initiative system. At the beginning of combat, everyone rolls initiative. However, each side has only one initiative score. They use the second-highest result for this. Only one side of combat goes at a time. Within the group, you may decide whether to go in order of initiative or some other order, which is up to you. Note that talking/banter is always a free action, especially in this setting. However, Cobra may end up abusing this a bit more, because of Cobra Commander’s more archetypical villainous behaviors. If you don’t know what to do, just start up a Seinfeldian conversation with an NPC, or bother me in OOC. If you have a question about the rules, go ahead and ask. I’ll just house-rule something in if I can’t find the answer within the PDF’s. Potential Concerns
I look forward to learning this system with the rest of you! |
