I remember playing with the toys more than anything. I also had a monthly mail subscription for the comics. I vaguely remember watching the cartoon, outside of a few episodes and the movie, and of course that Sgt. Savage garbage. I've since watched a good majority of the RAH episodes.

I didn't know better because of not having the cartoons or the comic; I used to think red Sonic Fighters, even the GI Joes, were the bad guys while the green cards were the good guys.
I was never into Cobras, I had like 30 Joes but only like 4 Cobras. The Joes were led by Musket with Hardball helping him drive the Swampmasher. Interrogator led the Cobras; Gnaw, Voltar, Roadpig & Neo Viper in the Detonator. General Flagg was the driver of Fort America with Red Star joining them from Russia. Ninja Law & the DEA Mace were my urban operations Joes. In 1993, I got into Jurassic Park which caused me to give up Joes until Star Brigade. Last edited by GoodGuy9; 08-25-2013 at 12:02 AM.. |

I grew up with both the cartoon and comic. I remember watching the first cartoon mini-series when it first aired. I thought it was cool, but not as cool as He-Man- who was more like a character in all my fairy tale books/stories.
I eventually came around the Christmas of '86 when I got pretty much the entire '85-86 GIJoe collection. Soon after, I started picking up Joe comics along with Archie (what my granny and aunt would sometimes read) and Spider-Man. The "Arise Serpentor Arise" was my first story arc and It was weird to me because it wasn't like the cartoon. I didn't like that. Nevertheless, I got a mail subscription to the GIJoe comic for 2 years. Even though I did grow up with and had concurrent exposure to both the 'toon and comic, around the summer of '88 and the years there after, a friend and I began to make up our own canon. We re-named most figures, assigned them all new roles, and the setting was changed to a post-apoc. This was also around the time we discovered how much more fun Joes were when kitbashed with only a screwdriver. Our Joes were re-named Dudes.
