Well Tankers, if you've ever wondered about the 2nd variation factor on the 1982 MOBAT tank, or have never even knew there was a 2nd variation on it, then this thread will be very informative to you!
As some of you may or may not know, the MOBAT tank from 1982/1983 has a variant. The earlier MOBAT tanks have a solid tank tread and the later released ones have notches in the tank treads and the wheels are designed to grip the notched treads. But as some of you may not know, there is another variation factor on the 1982 MOBAT. The battery covers are different between the notched and solid tread varieties. If you've wondered what the difference between the two are, well I have the answer!!! Take a look at the two pictures below and you'll see the difference between these two battery covers so you'll know once and for all if you have the correct battery cover or not on your MOBAT!!!

Notice the end of the battery cover. There is no groove on the end tab of the cover that goes into the back end of the battery compartment...

Here is the cover for the MOBAT tank for the notched tread variation. The tab for the back end of the battery compartment has a slotted groove on it as opposed to the original cover. This "modification" is the variant on the cover you may or may not have read about on the various archives out there. Look at the two pictures and you'll see the grooved tab I refer to.
Hope this solves the mystery if you've wondered about the variation in the battery covers if you thought both tanks have the same cover. However, as you've seen in this thread, they do not!

It has been said that modern batteries are too big for older toys and electronics. Brands like Energizer, Duracell and Rayovac specifically. The best solution I have learned is to buy the cheap dollar store brands. They seem to be slightly smaller despite being the same size (ex: D batteries).
