Would you watch a live action series of G.I. Joe? I personally would I feel its one of the the few things that would make a good show on television. Ideally I can see Destro as the starter villain and Cobra Commander as the main antagonist later on. Maybe even IronKlaw as the final villain(with him being like Cobra Commander's successor or protege).

uhm... no..
A lot would depend on the channel it's on, the budget, the producers, the writers, the actors, etc.. Would they go for a campy style? Something more along the lines of Strikeback or the Unit? How would the corny elements of Joe translate? It could either be good or be bad, very bad.

The idea is great in theory. I think Joe would make a great live action TV show, However the battle scenes are the problem would need a huge budget which I don't see happening. This is where animation can really help sell a show as they are not limited to the physical production limits a traditional show would have.

Doing vehicles and such in a live action show would be difficult.

To be honest I would prefer stand alone cartoon movies. Like DC are making at the moment.
They could even be a continuation of the Sunbow episodes. Like bridging the gap between Sunbow and DIC series. The first movie introducing the rest of the 1987 Joes/Cobras. Then the second movie based on 1988 characters. While both movies would still carry over characters from the old Sunbow episodes.

Well, they're doing a live action Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D show. So I guess we'll have to see how that does. I'm excited about it. I think a Joe show could be pulled off.
Remember that TV show 'The Unit'? It starred the guy from the Allstate commercials (Dennis Haysbert) and they had 69 episodes that lasted 3 seasons! I didn't care for it, but obviously there is an audience out there for these type of programs. |

I'd rather see one shot animated movies.

The Star Wars live ction series (now defuncted) was going to be based partially off the model for the Star Gate series, 50% studio, on set shots with additional animation (space) where needed. However even lucusfilm knew they couldn't pull it off with the budgets they were seeing. On of many reason for the delay & eventual cancellation.
A Joe show could work but you'd never see the giant sized battles from previous versions. & even in stargate later season shows were often re-written to include more studio time when budgets got tight. |

It would be a colossal bomb, most likely, since some fans would despise it if they didn't turn it into an ultra-gritty "24" style affair and others would decry it if they "sucked all the fun" out of it.
Others would flip out over any inevitable changes to the characters/backstories/whatever. G.I. Joe has always had a delicate balancing act of seriousness and cheese, and you can't lean too far in either direction and really still be G.I. Joe. |
