I think Joe works better as novellas then novels. I can't see a Joe trilogy being made, but a series of novellas (short stories) would work best.
Brad Thor, Barry Eisler, Greg Rucka all would make excellent Joe novelists. As for Brooks, he was definately hired for the use of his name. And I know he wasn't hired to be a copy editor, but I felt the overall tone of the anthology was all over the place. There was no real consistency between stories, just a bunch of random occurances. Too much drone combat, not enough Joe combat. The Skidmark story? What was up with that.

Sure, but they should give them some guidance though.

I think it could be good. Have Hasbro set an out-line of certain structure for the novels. But the author can create or develop the characters anyway they want.

Viper 6 wrote The Crimson Cloth and I think that was very well done. That's some excellent fan fiction right there.

F them. They shit all over the license with poor and inconsistent business decisions and then we ask that they charge someone else a fee to do it right? Cant stand the movies, don't want to read novels based on the movies.
Current comics are also the best example of how wrong good intention can go. Have Hama approve all print materials, pick someone outside hasbro and paramount and maybe even the current comic writers. One voice maybe would help but nothing will stop the bad business decisions. Same for the figure line, I also say pick a good caster team and kickstart a small line of figures, maybe 4 to start, that look close enough or better and just change the names. I don't think it needs to be repeated how awesome the 3rd party transformer market is. Take the jack assery out of the loop. Could not have said this any better!

I personally would be for this if the books were written in a novel (adult) format, not young readers books. I have read several EU Star Wars titles and enjoyed most of them although there were a few duds. My preference would be for them to write stories that occurred during ARAH. They could write just about any character because they can pick a time frame when some characters weren't dead. The timeline of the original comic was kind of loose so where was nothing saying exactly how much time passed between issues. It could work. This kind of licensing would certainly be better than skateboard decks and deformed figures.
