I'm all for it. I think it would be fun.

Rainbow six was like a Joe novel. I think Tom Clancy would write an excellent GI Joe book. Hasbro just needs to back up the garbage truck full of money to his house.

Tom Clancy hasn't actually written a book in a decade. At least. There's a team of writers who churn out his novels using "outlines" or "ideas" he provides them. Patterson and other huge selling schlock-makers do the same. But the part about needing a truck full of money is not wrong.

No real point, all told. Only hardcore Joe fans would be likely to pick them up, so it's not really going to expand the brand. Then they'd complain about them endlessly for not getting the little detail from the third sentence of the first section of Skidmark's filecard right.
Most people seeing a G.I. Joe book in print (which is increasingly less likely given that physical bookstores are going the way of the dodo), would assume it was a kid's book. |

Max Brooks could obviously do it - he has a handle on the Joe universe and is an excellent writer. I think Tales of the Cobra Wars sales were not that great. It just wasn't marketed right - no movie to back it at the time. The RoC prequel was quite good - the movie novel was better than the movie but it was forced to play in that universe and within the movie constraints.
There is certainly a movement in this genre that GI Joe falls in to make everything work together. I imagine we are going to see IDW, Hasbro and Paramount start working together to produce a seamless product. A book would likely fall in with this. (Other properties doing this are Marvel, TFs, Star Wars, etc).

I wonder if Hasbro would open up it's properties in Amazon's Kindle Worlds, the fan fiction writing site.
For those that don't know what it is, authors and some comic publishers, are allowing fan fiction to be written and published based on their works (and following their strict guidelines). People can then buy this fan fiction and the writer gets a percentage of the sale. Hasbro could allow their stuff to be used and put up guidelines like (in continuity only, no major deaths, etc.. etc..).

I don't know about his handle on the Joe universe. Hearts and Minds was okay, incomplete because didn't carry through on the ideas in his own stories, but that barely fit into IDW continuity.
