Here's a view from the opposite side. My husband doesn't mind me buying GI Joes and other toys I like. Only as long as there's money to pay the bills, rent, groceries and the like. He's also a collector too. He-Man, Spider-Man, etc. So yeah, we both put necessities first(what I listed above), then collectibles second. And also, we set a budget for them.

Allow me to recommend these two episodes of WOJM:
WOJM Special Edition #25: Ladies Night II » What's on JOE Mind? WOJM Special Edition #8: Ladies Night: Your Significant Other, Your Collection and You! » What's on JOE Mind?

Hell yes man that's awesome. My wife is pretty cool about my buying although she does Nag occasionally but more about my stuff just being everywhere mostly. She never really busted my balls about any of it until pretty much I joined the tank and began taking with other members regularly. Now she says im a nerd and laughs. Its awesome that your wife is on here as well. Can't wait to share that with her. |

My wife is cool about it, but we keep our bills separate. Although I feel you should be able to spend what you want on your hobby. You probably should talk to your wife about it.

I love my wife and she's as big a geek as I am, only she leans more toward the science fiction end of things than I do. I have an advantage here, though. Her father (who lives across the driveway from us) is a collector...of everything. He goes through the garbage after I clean out a shed or one of the outbuildings to make sure I didn't toss anything "important". She is a chip off of the old block, so I sometimes have to pry crap out of her hands to throw it away, but she's gotten a lot better about it. Our county has a garage sale every year, yeah, the entire dang county. People drive in from Arkansas to take a look at our crap.
She and I have an agreement. We participate in the sale every year and the first year we made $700, that paid for a family vacation. This year we nearly cleared $1K because we sold a derelict SUV. She's enthusiastic now, and goes through stuff through the whole year. So far, she avoids my toys. My Joe collection takes up one bookshelf and a really big plastic tub under the bed, so it's not like it's huge. I also spent a lot of money this year upgrading her camera equipment (she's a professional photographer and her gear takes a beating), so again, she can't get too irritated. The best thing to do is talk to her. If she can understand why you enjoy a hobby (and we all have reasons, for me, I grew up a Reagan Kid and GI Joe was my childhood) then she's more inclined to be supportive as long as it isn't interfering with financial issues like gas, bills, and groceries, or, at least leave you alone about it. I also have a son who collects Joes, too. It's something we bond with and she loves that. |

well I would say my wife doesnt really get up set with what I buy, I go to toy shows that are pretty far away, and she gets mad if i come home with 3 figures! shes like " why drive all the way to shows for 3 figures you should bring home boxes!"
when I bought the eaglehawk in front of her she was like thats 42 dollars! and I am like I gotta have it and hell I was gonna buy 2! she was ok with it. but honestly sometimes I dont tell her what all i buy. I dont get on her case about buying things she likes and she doesnt get on my case. I would say if your wife gives you a hard time, there are several options. #1DONT TELL HER, its not her business unless you are using her money and running up a debt. #2get a second job and use that extra money for you toys. #3 make the toys your second job, buy huge lots and sell at shows on an ebay store. She wont get mad if she sees your trying to make money and saving something for personal use. #4 flip the whole thing on her! does she go do her nails all the time? thats HUGE waste of money 30-40 dollars every month for something that lasts a week! does she get 50 dollar hair cuts women spend a lot of money! even my wife who doesnt do all those things still equals my toy spending per month not even trying #5 PROVE that your willing to cut out some things inorder to support your hobby this will cause less strain on the money of the marriage. You can take to lunch to work every day, car pool with some buds, drink cheap beer or stop drinking, buy your clothes from thrift shops, basically you will make changes on things that affect you to give you money for your joe collection. #6 try to keep you stuff neat and out of sight. if you have shit everywhere shes is gonna get pissed
